Matters needing attention for drug rehabilitation personnel

1) One must be fully prepared mentally and have a strong will. For drug addicts, quitting drugs is a painful and arduous, lengthy process, but it is also the only choice. The saying "it's easy to take drugs but hard to quit" is determined by the physiological and psychological dependence characteristics of drugs. Physiological dependence refers to how drugs strongly stimulate the central nervous system, causing overall biochemical disorder in the body. Through repeated use, the body reaches a new balance on this disordered foundation. If the drug is suddenly stopped, this new balance is disrupted, leading to new disorders, which result in a series of severe physical discomforts and damages known as withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms are extremely painful and difficult to endure, and can even be life-threatening. As for psychological dependence, it is unfathomable to normal people and very difficult for addicts to let go of. Therefore, given the current situation worldwide, there is no magic pill for quitting drugs. To successfully quit, besides external enforcement, the addict themselves must make a firm decision and endure hardship.

2) One should detoxify at a legitimate rehabilitation institution and not attempt to quit alone. Detoxification is a complex systematic project; one cannot expect miracles to happen, nor should they believe in folk remedies, secret recipes, or quack doctors, abusing so-called anti-addiction medications. Otherwise, not only will time and money be wasted, but accidents may also occur. Some addicts, in order to avoid others knowing and damaging their reputation, try to quit on their own or with the help of family members. This is extremely dangerous because the withdrawal reactions during detoxification could trigger various complications. Without medical care at home, unexpected situations might arise, even posing a threat to life. Therefore, drug users should go to voluntary detoxification institutions run by health departments or the voluntary detoxification departments of compulsory detoxification centers run by public security organs for treatment. These places are equipped with necessary medical facilities and staffed with strictly trained and experienced medical personnel, nurses, inspectors, and managers. They have a complete set of strict management systems and organizational discipline regarding examination, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, nursing, observation, drug management, safety measures, daily routines, etc. Such detoxification institutions are managed extremely strictly, and the treatment is very safe.

4) Auxiliary treatment to alleviate symptoms. During the detoxification period, withdrawal symptoms are often unbearable. To help the addicted individuals get through this difficult time, medical personnel can provide corresponding symptomatic auxiliary treatments based on individual conditions. For example, non-anesthetic analgesics can be appropriately selected, antiemetic drugs for severe vomiting, *** for serious insomnia, anti-anxiety drugs for restlessness, and laxatives for constipation. Additionally, many detoxification patients suffer from various chronic diseases. After withdrawal, their bodies become extremely weak, exposing latent or pre-existing illnesses, with a lack of resistance. At this point, symptomatic treatment is especially needed.

5) Reasonable diet, enhanced nutrition. Long-term drug users often have gastrointestinal dysfunction, manifesting as indigestion and malnutrition absorption, leading to a very weak constitution and low disease resistance. Especially for some protracted symptoms in the later stages of withdrawal, while certain drugs can be used, they often have minimal effect or are unsuitable for long-term use. The key lies in improving nutrition, strengthening physical exercise, and restoring physical strength as soon as possible. Therefore, during detoxification treatment, everything related to the dietary nutrition, daily routine, and activity schedule of the detoxifying individuals must follow the scientific and reasonable arrangements of the medical staff.
