The oldest filial star Yuan Can-kai moved the people of Shilong once again with his filial piety. At the age of over 80, he won the title of "Top Ten Filial Stars" in Shilong Town for his meticulous care of his 105-year-old mother. Last night, the first elderly-respecting culture festival in Shilong Town came to an end, and the town leaders awarded the finally selected "Stars of Filial Piety" including Yuan Can-kai.
The 10 "Stars of Filial Piety" were all publicly voted on and have a good reputation in Shilong Town. It is understood that nearly ten thousand citizens voted for the 18 candidates through various means. Ultimately, combining the number of citizen votes and judge votes, 10 winners were chosen: Ye Meilan, Liu Ping, He Canhui, Lu Cailian, Zhang Rongji, Luo Zhi-xiong, Lin Liqing, Yuan Can-kai, Xiao Yingqi, and Li Qiumei.
Luo Zhi-xiong: Every night accompanying his dementia-afflicted father
Luo Zhi-xiong is a teacher at the Shilong Physical Education School. The 58-year-old has been taking care of his father suffering from Alzheimer's disease for ten years without interruption. Having suffered from the illness for 10 years, his father became suspicious, temperamental, and difficult to take care of. Luo Zhi-xiong personally took care of him and even slept with his father at night.
His father often caused disturbances in the middle of the night wanting to go out. Luo Zhi-xiong would humor him, and their figures could often be seen on quiet streets late at night. Due to the illness, the old man would sometimes throw tantrums when taking medicine. Luo Zhi-xiong would use different methods like coaxing a child, making his father take the medicine. Sometimes, just to get the elder to take the medicine, he would play with him for a while first.
Yuan Can-kai: Personally prepares breakfast for his mother every day
Yuan Can-kai was the former head of the accounting department at Shilong Paper Factory. This year, he is already over eighty years old and walks with a cane. His father passed away due to illness when he was 13, leaving his young mother to support the entire family.
Decades ago, after his mother fell and got injured, she had difficulty moving around. Yuan Can-kai not only hired a nanny for his mother but also moved into her room and slept in adjacent beds.
Yuan Can-kai personally prepares breakfast for his mother every day. Knowing that his mother prefers to drink herbal tea flavored with honey dates, he brews a pot for her every day. During meals, he carefully removes the bones from the fish meat for his mother.
Under Yuan Can-kai's careful care, the 105-year-old Chen grandmother remains healthy and lives happily without worries. In this year's third "Moral Model of Respecting the Elderly and Loving Relatives" selection in Dongguan City, Yuan Can-kai received this honorable title.
