With the development of economy, the types and usage of home electrical appliances have increased sharply. According to statistics, fires caused by insufficient understanding, improper installation, illegal use or poor product quality have significantly increased. Therefore, how to prevent such fires has become the key to home fire prevention.
TV Fire Prevention
1. The placement of TV should be appropriate, both moisture-proof and heat-proof, as well as dust-proof. Meanwhile, ventilation should also be paid attention to. When watching TV, it should not be leaned against the wall or placed in a wooden cabinet to avoid affecting heat dissipation, damaging components, and causing fires.
2. Flammable and explosive liquids or gases should not be stored near the TV to avoid the TV discharging sparks, igniting these items.
3. Watching TV for too long is not advisable because the heating of the TV increases with time. The longer you watch, the higher the internal temperature of the machine becomes. Therefore, after watching continuously for three to four hours, the TV should be turned off for a while to let the internal heat dissipate before continuing to watch.
4. Do not use outdoor antennas during thunderstorms, as TVs using outdoor antennas are prone to lightning strikes. If there are lightning protection devices installed, turn off the switch during thunderstorms and ensure good grounding.
5. The outer insulation layer of the TV power cord should be intact. If damaged, wrap with insulating tape to avoid exposing wires and causing short circuits. Extended power cords should be placed where they cannot be easily touched, as during TV watching, the surrounding light is dim, and improperly placed power cords can easily be bumped off or even broken, causing accidents.
7. If the TV catches fire, smokes, or emits an unusual smell while watching TV programs, immediately cut off the power and carry out maintenance.
8. After watching TV, turn off the switch, unplug the plug, and completely cut off the power.
Refrigerator Fire Prevention
1. Do not put flammable and explosive items into the refrigerator, such as alcohol, ether, gasoline, etc. If necessary, make sure the container is absolutely sealed to prevent gas leakage.
2. The power line of the refrigerator should be avoided contacting the compressor and condenser to prevent the power line from being roasted and causing leakage or short circuit.
3. Frequently remove water from the refrigerator to prevent water from flowing into the electrical switch and causing a short circuit that leads to a fire. Do not wash the refrigerator with water to prevent the temperature control electrical switch from getting wet and damp.
Air Conditioner Fire Prevention
1. Before installing the air conditioner, check the incoming power lines and electricity meter to prevent overload. Generally, the power consumption of a household air conditioner is 1-3 kilowatts, and its power line installation and connection must meet the requirement of rated current no less than 5-15 amperes, and a separate overload protection device must be set up.
2. Use the home air conditioner correctly. Do not cut off or connect the power supply of the air conditioner frequently in a short time. After a power failure or unplugging the power plug, remember to place the selection switch at the [stop] position. When using it again, reconnect the power supply and restart according to the start-up steps.
3. The air conditioner must take grounding or zero protection. It can only be used when the hot state insulation resistance is no less than 2 ohms. For fully enclosed compressors, the sealed wiring seat should undergo pressure and insulation tests to prevent overflowed refrigerating oil from catching fire.
4. Flammable items should not be piled around the air conditioner, and curtains should not be draped on window-type air conditioners.
5. Do not modify the air conditioner to increase its functions.
Washing Machine Fire Prevention
1. Before use, read the instructions correctly. The power cord should not be too long. Fix it on the wall with a wire clamp. Do not drag it on the ground to prevent damage and short circuit.
2. Consider grounding and connecting to neutral line before use. Although it does not carry electricity under normal operation, for safety, the cross-section of the grounding and neutral line should not be lower than the phase line.
3. Pay attention to moisture-proofing. Washing machines should not often be placed in damp and poorly ventilated places to prevent reducing the moisture-proof insulation performance of motors, capacitors, and other components.
4. Prevent the motor from running overloaded for a long time during use. If the motor heats up and the speed decreases, stop running to prevent burning out the motor and causing a fire.
5. After using the washing machine, turn off the switch, unplug the plug, and completely cut off the power to prevent accidents.
Lighting Fixture Fire Prevention
1. Fluorescent lamp ballasts should not be installed on combustible materials. If necessary, use non-combustible, heat-insulating materials for isolation.
2. The voltage of the ballast must be the same as the voltage and capacity of the lamp for proper use.
3. Incandescent lamps must maintain a certain distance from combustibles. The distance should be no less than 50 cm, and paper or other combustible materials should not be used to wrap the bulb.
4. Flammable items should not be piled directly below incandescent lamps.
5. The conductor used for lighting fixtures must match the environment and the power of the lamp. Avoid randomly connecting or pulling wires and changing bulbs with larger power without authorization.
6. The height of the bulb from the ground should generally be no less than 2 m. If lower, necessary protective measures should be taken; if the bulb is installed in a place prone to collisions, a metal or other mesh cover should be used for protection.
Electric Iron Fire Prevention Measures
1. Before using the electric iron, adjust the knob to the appropriate temperature based on the fabric's properties. After use, return the temperature control knob to the 'off' or 'cold' position. For steam irons, distilled water or cooled boiled water is best used in the water tank, and attention should be paid to ensuring the water in the tank does not dry out.
2. During breaks in ironing, stand the electric iron upright rather than laying it flat on the work surface. After use, unplug it promptly and wait until it cools down enough to not cause a fire before storing it.
3. The stand for the electric iron should be made of non-flammable material.
Hair Dryer Fire Prevention
1. The distance between the hair dryer nozzle and the hair should not be too close, and there should be a certain angle. Direct blowing should be avoided to prevent scorching the hair or burning the scalp.
2. When using the hairdryer to clean dust or dry other electrical appliances, pay special attention to the angle and time. Otherwise, it may deform or burn the plastic shell of the appliance and cause a fire.
3. Do not use the hairdryer in bathrooms or excessively humid places. Also, do not use the hairdryer to dry curtains, fabrics, or other flammable materials to prevent high temperatures from causing a fire.
4. After using the hairdryer, restore all switches and buttons to the shutdown position and store it after cooling down. Do not place the uncooled hairdryer on wooden tables or close to flammable materials.
5. If the hairdryer malfunctions, immediately cut off the power and repair it before use to prevent short circuits in the power line from causing a fire.
Gas Water Heater Fire Prevention
1. You must choose a gas quick water heater tested and approved by relevant national departments.
2. The type of fuel used by the gas water heater should be consistent with the gas used by the user.
3. Users should strictly follow the manufacturer's product manual when using and installing gas water heaters.
4. Users should check whether the gas pressure matches the gas pressure of the water heater. If the natural gas pressure is more than twice the rated pressure of the water heater, a pressure regulator must be installed before the water heater intake pipe.
5. The water heater should be fixed on a fire-resistant wall.
6. The gas supply system should be installed reliably. After installation, use soapy water for leak testing.
7. When using the water heater, make sure to open windows and doors for ventilation or use exhaust fans for forced ventilation; otherwise, suffocation may occur.
8. Pay attention to water supply when using the water heater, and stop the fire immediately when the water stops.
9. Timely clear accumulated carbon deposits and clean the water heater to ensure complete combustion. If problems are found, contact the gas management department immediately for repairs.
10. Water heaters must not be installed in places without ventilation to ensure personal safety.
Vacuum Cleaner Fire Prevention Measures
1. Power sockets should have sufficient capacity and should not be used simultaneously with other large-power household appliances like electric irons and electric heaters to avoid overheating of electrical lines.
2. Usage time should not be too long. If the plastic shell feels obviously warm when touched, stop using it for a while before continuing to prevent the motor from overheating and burning out.
3. Vacuum cleaners should not be used in damp places to avoid motor moisture and short-circuit fires.
4. Clean the dust on the filter bag (device) each time after use to prevent blockage of the air inlet and exhaust outlet by larger objects, which could reduce power and cause motor overheating and fires.
5. Do not suck lit matches, fireplace ashes, cigarette butts, or other smoking objects into the vacuum cleaner, nor use it to clean ashtrays or waste bins containing miscellaneous items to prevent fires.
6. Strictly prohibit the use of vacuum cleaners in flammable and explosive hazardous places. Do not use them in rooms or cabins that have just used flammable liquids or sprayed paint to prevent fire and explosion accidents.
7. After each use of the vacuum cleaner, make sure to unplug the power cord from the socket and store it properly to prevent children from playing with it and causing accidents.
