During the team-building activities in Beijing, some participants often make such mistakes. They always think in a straight line while completing the projects during the team-building training, which makes the project increasingly difficult and their thinking increasingly narrow. As a result, they waste a lot of time on one problem, leading to the failure of the project. In real life, how can we break this traditional way of thinking? How can we put down our current methods and pick up a mode of thinking that we don't usually use? This requires us to recognize our shortcomings and train our thinking step by step, allowing our thoughts in our brains to branch out like the canopy of a large tree, rather than being like a utility pole with no angles or edges.
Regarding this issue, the coach often tells everyone such a story during the activity. The story goes like this: Long, long ago, in a remote mountainous area, every household raised dogs. No one managed the dogs; they just returned to their owner's house when hungry to eat. Otherwise, they just ran around on the streets. If they could find food, they wouldn't return for a long time. One day, a beggar came to the street, pitifully going door-to-door begging for food. At this time, a dog noticed him and chased after the beggar all over the street. In the end, the beggar was bitten by the dog. The next day, the beggar still had to beg in this town. Since he was bitten by the dog the first day, he became more cautious. This time, he decided to carry a stone, so if the dog attacked again, he would be ready. Thus, the beggar, carrying a stone, walked into the small town once again, pitifully going door-to-door begging for food. Again, the dog appeared.
When the beggar, carrying one stone, entered the village for the second time, he encountered not one but two dogs attacking him. Unfortunately, he only had one stone and couldn't handle both dogs at the same time. After hitting one dog, the beggar turned and ran, but how could he outrun the dogs? In the end, he was bitten by another dog. On the third day, the beggar still had to go begging. This time, he carried two stones. Coincidentally, when he arrived at the village, three dogs appeared. The beggar was bitten by the dogs again. Back home, the beggar thought, why am I always bitten by dogs? Fortunately, on the fourth day, he carried a whole bag of stones to beg, to prevent more dogs from attacking him. However, carrying so many stones made it very inconvenient to beg. Not only did he fail to get any food, but the stones also exhausted him. When he dejectedly continued knocking on people's doors, the dogs appeared again, and this time, a whole pack of them. The beggar thought, "No matter what, you will bite me anyway." Determined to fight them off today, he dropped the stones and picked up a stick to hit the dogs. Surprisingly, after a few hits, all the dogs ran away. The beggar suddenly realized that a stick was far more effective than a whole bag of stones.
