Weibo Recommendation | Today's Weibo Hotspots (Editor: SN034) —— Buying groceries, cooking, feeding, serving tea... As usual, yesterday, Liang Xingyi, who lives in Dongfeng Er Cun Community on Dongfeng Road, started his day of "cyclical" chores. Due to his wife suffering from cerebral infarction, brain atrophy, and other brain diseases, for the past 14 years, from daily living to outdoor activities, Liang Xingyi has been taking care of her like a nanny without ever leaving her side. This issue of Neighborhood Storytelling will tell the story of Liang Xingyi, the husband-nanny who cares for his wife.
Liang Xingyi's careful care for his wife with brain disease has long become a fine tale in the community. "For over 10 years, he has been taking such meticulous care, it’s really not easy!" Wang Ai Hua, a resident of the same neighborhood, was deeply moved by Liang Xingyi's story.
"When we got married, she had just a little bit of brain disease, but it wasn't very apparent. The aggravation of the brain disease leading to her inability to take care of herself happened after she lost her job." Liang Xingyi recalled his wife's medical history. At 58 years old, Liang Xingyi was once an employee of a cement power pole factory in the city area, while his wife was a member of Changsha Qidi, doing simple packaging work. In 1996, due to company restructuring, Shu Lihua retired early, and her brain disease subsequently worsened. By the next year, she was almost unable to take care of herself.
All 365 days of the year, he revolves around his wife
"If I don’t feed her, she either stares blankly or hasn't eaten a bite after half a day, so I simply feed her." To ensure his wife with brain disease eats hot meals, Liang Xingyi has maintained this method of caring for his wife until now.
He knew she had brain disease when they got married
In the Dongfeng Er Cun residential area, it is relatively easy to find Liang Xingyi, as his touching story of meticulously caring for his wife is well-known throughout the neighborhood. Upon entering Liang Xingyi's home, one can see his wife, Shu Lihua, sitting in front of a table, her rigid expression revealing the severity of her condition.
"After the doctor's diagnosis said there was no cure, there was nothing else to do but for me to take care of her," Liang Xingyi said. From initially balancing work and caregiving, to becoming a full-time caregiver for his wife seven years ago after he himself became unemployed.
Liang Xingyi told reporters that he has gotten used to these daily caregiving routines, which naturally enables him to persist. If there’s something that bothers him, aside from being unable to communicate with his wife, it’s that she defecates and urinates indiscriminately in bed at night. Sometimes, especially during cold nights, it makes cleaning up particularly difficult for him.
Over a decade of persistence moves the residents
According to neighbors, currently, Liang Xingyi himself also suffers from multiple illnesses. He and his wife rely on meager pensions to live, and with daily medical expenses, their family's financial situation is quite strained. For this reason, neighbors provide some help within their capabilities, such as sending good food, and during holidays, the community often extends love and support.
"No matter how bitter or tired, I have to keep going because she is my wife!" A few simple words reveal Liang Xingyi's determination to continue his steadfast care into the future.
In order to prevent his wife's condition from worsening as much as possible, during the day, he insists on supporting her as they walk around the neighborhood. Through many years of meticulous care, today, Shu Lihua's condition is relatively stable, and their life is well-organized.
From getting dressed in the morning to washing up and using the toilet, from buying groceries and cooking to feeding, from supporting her for outdoor walks to washing clothes, all the way to washing her face and feet or giving her a bath at night, for these past years, Liang Xingyi has revolved around his wife every day, taking care of her like a nanny.
