According to news from this station (reporter Bin Liu, correspondent Hong Li), on February 24th, the Intermediate People's Court of Baoding City made a first-instance public verdict in the case of Chen Tao intentionally committing murder. The defendant, Chen Tao, was sentenced to death for intentional homicide, with all political rights revoked for life and ordered to pay 109,979 yuan in economic compensation to the victim's family.
Upon investigation, it was found that Chen Tao had just built a new house but didn't have enough money for renovation. When he noticed that a clinic run by Zisheng Liu (a pseudonym) in a certain village of Xushui County seemed quite profitable, he decided to kidnap Zisheng's son Jian Liu (pseudonym) and daughter-in-law Li Shan (pseudonym), then demand money from their family for the renovation of his new house.
At around 11 p.m. on September 21st, 2011, Chen Tao sneaked into Zisheng Liu's living room with a pre-prepared machete and hid there waiting for an opportunity to commit the crime. However, as he was discovered by Jian Liu, Chen Tao slashed and stabbed both victims Jian Liu and Li Shan multiple times on their heads, chests, backs, and limbs with the machete inside their bedroom. Upon hearing the commotion, Zisheng Liu rushed from the adjacent bedroom to the doorway of Jian Liu’s bedroom, where Chen Tao again slashed and stabbed Zisheng Liu over ten times on his head and chest, resulting in the deaths of three people. He then fled the scene.
