George Blaisdell, an American (whose nickname was "Mr. Zippo"), is the founder of Zippo. He is the one who created the Zippo lighter that represents masculine beauty.
In 1932, George Blaisdell, an American, saw a friend awkwardly using a cheap Austrian-made lighter to light a cigarette. To cover up the embarrassing lighter, he shrugged and said, "It's very practical!" Afterward, Blaisdell invented a simply designed lighter that was unaffected by air pressure or low temperatures. He named it "Zippo," inspired by another great invention of the time—the zipper ("zipper"). It was named with the principle of "it works" in mind. Four years later, Zippo successfully obtained a patent from the U.S. government. Based on its original structure, it redesigned the sleek rectangular casing, connected the lid to the body with a hinge, and overcame design challenges by adding a perforated windproof wall around the wick specifically designed for wind resistance. In the early 1940s, Zippo became military equipment for the U.S. Army. With the outbreak of World War II, American soldiers quickly fell in love with it. Its instant ignition and excellent windproof performance earned universal praise among soldiers.
