Our reporter (Xu Ming) - Red and swollen eyes, bruised face... A few days ago, photos of a 10-year-old boy named Jiajia (a pseudonym) who was suspected to be a victim of "domestic violence" appeared on the internet, immediately sparking heated discussions among netizens; they even found Jiajia's residence in Baoshan and launched a "rescue" operation. The reporter learned that after the incident, Jiajia's school, the local street office, and the district youth protection office had intervened. After being examined for injuries, it was confirmed that the boy had fractured ribs and he was currently being cared for by his grandmother.
After Jiajia's plight was exposed, many netizens investigated and discovered the boy's address, voluntarily coming to the neighborhood to "save" the child. The security guard of the neighborhood also confirmed that due to frequent visits by netizens, the boy's family had considered moving. After the incident, Jiajia's school, the local street office, and the district youth protection office successively got involved. The day before yesterday, the examination confirmed that the boy had fractured ribs. His grandmother, biological mother, and stepfather went to the police station for negotiations. Afterwards, the boy was taken away by his grandmother and is now temporarily staying at his grandmother's home on Xinhua Road. "The child’s emotions are stable now, and his injuries need rest. Teachers from the school have visited and said they will provide tutoring at home," the grandmother stated.
Jiajia's case of "domestic violence" has been circulating online for a week, but related discussions have not ceased. Netizens described how the 10-year-old boy Jiajia attended a primary school in Zhabei District and lived in Gaojing Town, Baoshan District. His parents divorced early, and the court awarded custody of Jiajia to his father, but his father passed away when he was young, leaving him under the care of his mother and stepfather. According to neighbors in Jiajia's neighborhood, they often saw the boy standing alone outside his door late at night as punishment. Additionally, the boy had multiple bruises on his body, which he claimed were inflicted by his stepfather.
During interviews, reporters learned that Jiajia's biological mother and stepfather did not deny hitting the child but claimed it was "for his own good." The stepfather stated that Jiajia behaved well in front of others but frequently lied at home and "went against them." In response, the Gaoding Town Youth Protection Office mentioned that since domestic violence behavior cannot yet be clearly defined or constrained by specific laws and regulations, resolution can only be achieved through communication. If the situation does not improve, they will consider contacting the workplaces of Jiajia's stepfather and biological mother.
