Beijing Court Rules Viagra Patent Valid, June 5, 2006, 18:37 Sina Finance
A court in China has upheld the patent protection for Pfizer Inc.'s drug Viagra, a decision that could be a milestone and hold significant implications for better patent protection for foreign companies in China.
A court in Beijing overturned a previous ruling last Friday made by the Patent Reexamination Board of the State Intellectual Property Office. In July 2004, the board had supported the claims of more than a dozen Chinese generic drug manufacturers, declaring the patent for sildenafil citrate, the main component of Viagra, invalid.
