Racquet: [Refined through countless trials] - a powerful weapon
Since signing the [Storm Pair] Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng, Li Ning's Kayson brand has spared no effort in crafting the sharpest weapons for the duo. The Kayson F9 racquet that Fu Haifeng currently uses was custom-made for him. With its black and red flame-patterned design, it appears understated yet brimming with vitality, echoing Fu Haifeng's introverted demeanor off the court and passionate character on it, achieving a [spiritual resemblance] between player and racquet. To make the racquet more suitable for Fu Haifeng, the Kayson brand sought his opinion during the design of the F9 racquet, choosing red as one of the main colors because it is his favorite.
Many people know that a heavier racquet can increase the threat of an attack to some extent, but Fu Haifeng, this [smash machine], isn't fond of heavy racquets. He said, "If the racquet is too heavy, the elasticity of the shaft will decrease. Personally, I prefer racquets with good shaft elasticity, so I wouldn't choose a heavy one. I can't specifically explain why, but I feel that with my smash technique, a racquet with better elasticity is more lethal and feels smoother to use." In pursuit of high-quality smashes, Fu Haifeng is very meticulous about his strings, pulling them at 32 pounds and changing them after a maximum of three matches. "I think after three matches, the tension drops significantly, and the elasticity of the strings decreases, so they must be replaced," he explained. From here, we can also see the meticulous side of Fu Haifeng.
Although the Kayson F9 has become Fu Haifeng's most favored weapon, the initial F9 looked quite different from its current form. Fu Haifeng recalled, "At first, Kayson gave me several racquets to try out. I chose the F9 because it felt relatively more suitable. Later, based on training and match experiences, we made many adjustments and improvements. After the Asian Games, we made another adjustment, enhancing the elasticity of the head. Now, I'm very satisfied with the performance of the racquet."
Uniform: A preference for the national team's colors
Last year, when the [Storm Pair] appeared in their purple uniforms, they immediately drew a chorus of screams. An extremely rare color in badminton attire history, it not only complemented the two handsome players but also brought a new trend to the court. Regarding this uniform, Fu Haifeng praised endlessly: "The color provides a significant visual impact and looks great. This uniform is made from a new material; I don't know exactly what it is, but I do know the production cost is higher than other clothing. It feels very comfortable and fits well, so it won't interfere with my movements during the game. Most importantly, the sweat-wicking and breathability are excellent, and even after absorbing sweat, the shirt doesn't become heavy, minimizing its impact on the match. It's truly amazing!"
Many doubles players face the issue of negotiating match uniforms, but the golden duo of Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun have no such concern. Before each match, the outgoing Cai Yun always takes the initiative to ask Fu Haifeng's opinion, leaving the decision naturally up to Fu Haifeng. "We don't have any particular requirements for our uniforms; we just change them for every match."
Currently, Kayson provides blue or purple match uniforms for the [Storm Pair], but Fu Haifeng's preference for uniform colors lies elsewhere. "Yellow," Fu Haifeng revealed his answer, "because the national team wears yellow uniforms more often, and wearing them gives a stronger sense of belonging."
Bag: Simplicity and practicality above all
Almost all the handsome men and beautiful women of the national team carry a multitude of personal items, including charms, mobile phones, wallets... Therefore, many people like bags with multiple small compartments, allowing them to store all their belongings inside. However, Fu Haifeng does not. "A bag should be simple; having too many compartments or small bags is unnecessary. I even think a separate shoe compartment in the bag is unnecessary," Fu Haifeng said, "as long as it can hold the racquet, that's fine."
When talking about shoes, Fu Haifeng had more requirements: "Firstly, the sole should be wavy. Other shapes may also offer good anti-slip effects, but I tend to prefer the wavy ones. Secondly, the sole should be slightly thicker with good cushioning, especially at the heel. Since I perform a lot of jump smashes, landing places a significant impact on my heels, so the shoes need to provide better protection for the heels. Additionally, the sides of the shoes should be snug to secure the feet. Badminton involves many sudden stops and starts, and if the shoes don't fit snugly, it's easy to get injured."
