Xinhua News Agency report - An Australian man, while on vacation 8,000 kilometers away from home, discovered intruders in his house through the Internet and promptly called the police to catch the thieves.

The man resides in a suburb of Melbourne. Three years ago, he purchased three Internet-connected cameras online and installed them in his home. In September this year, he went on vacation to Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean. One day, he took out his iPad tablet, connected to the Internet, and used the cameras to check on his home, only to discover two burglars inside.

"I was completely shocked," he told the Australian Herald Sun newspaper on the 23rd. "I watched for a full two minutes before I remembered to call the police. I really didn't know what to do."

He then called a friend to help him alert the authorities. The police arrived at the scene, caught the thieves red-handed, and charged them with breaking and entering.

The stolen items included a flat-screen TV, alcohol, shoes, and a dog bed, worth thousands of Australian dollars. These three cameras cost less than 300 Australian dollars (approximately 294 USD) in total. "I never thought they would actually come in handy," the homeowner said.

Policewoman Bianca Aitken, who responded to the scene, said it was the first time she had encountered such a situation. "Closed-circuit television footage can help solve cases," she said, "but using an iPad to directly discover them from the other side of the world is a great method."
