In the year Wang Chunlan turned 32, her husband passed away, and her son left this world in his early 40s. She was initially left with her daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, but they all have their own careers now.

Wang Chunlan is a retired bank employee. Not long ago, she joined the Changsha Urban Volunteers Association. "After fostering mentally ill children for so many years, she has certainly earned the title of a social volunteer!" said Wang Qing, head of the Renhe Volunteer Society. At 94 years old, Wang Chunlan can be considered one of the oldest volunteers in Changsha.

In 2006, with the help of the Furong District government, Luo Qiang began recuperating at the Changsha Second Welfare Institute. His current medical expenses are covered by a government subsidy of 900 yuan per month, while Wang Chunlan contributes an additional 400 yuan each month.

Twenty-seven years ago, at the age of 67, Wang Chunlan learned that a six-month-old boy named Luo Qiang needed care due to his mother's death and the family's financial difficulties. Wang Chunlan said that at the time, she lived alone, had a pension, and had plenty of free time, so she decided to take care of the infant. However, this act of caregiving lasted for 27 years.

When Luo Qiang graduated from junior high school, his behavior suddenly changed, and he even exhibited violent tendencies. Wang Chunlan quickly took him to Xiangya Hospital in Changsha for evaluation. It was determined that Luo Qiang suffered from schizophrenia. Determined to treat Luo Qiang, Wang Chunlan resolved, "I am willing to eat less myself if it means I can afford his treatment."

Report from Changsha - "Grandma, this is my little token of appreciation. Happy Birthday, Grandma!" Yesterday marked Wang Chunlan's 94th birthday, celebrated by 14 volunteers. At this moment, tears welled up in Wang Chunlan's eyes.
