According to regulations, dressmakers usually hang multiple labels on clothes. For example, the brand name is often noted on the collar and cuffs so that consumers can confirm the brand; specifications and sizes are marked on the neckline and side seams to help consumers choose suitable clothing by size; the most prominent place on the garment will have a hangtag that gathers all the information about the garment, providing a comprehensive introduction of the brand, composition, specifications, and whether it has passed inspection. Among these, there is a small label in the seam of the garment, known as the permanent care label. It mainly provides consumers with reference regarding the material composition and washing instructions, and introduces how to properly maintain the garment during use. The permanent care label usually indicates content composition, washing symbols, dry-cleaning symbols, drying methods, and ironing methods.

It can be said that a small clothing label contains a lot of information. Although small, it is a primary indicator of whether the product is qualified, and a specific manifestation of the merchant's responsibility to the consumer.

Therefore, the Dongguan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau reminds all garment export enterprises: the composition and care labels for textiles and garments must be sewn onto the clothing in the form of a permanent label. The patterns on the permanent label must be complete, and the components and their proportions cannot be falsified. In this regard, inspection and quarantine departments should increase publicity efforts to relevant production enterprises and trading companies, strengthen inspections and supervision of textile garments, to ensure the quality of exported textile garments.

According to a Business Social report on September 11, recently, the Dongguan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau found that 71% of non-conforming batches of exported textile garments were due to "label" non-conformities when analyzing and statistically reviewing the quality of exported textile garments in the first half of the year. Since clothing labels generally indicate the size, materials, and maintenance methods of the garment, this is crucial for manufacturers, brand owners, retailers, consumers, and any party in the supply chain.
