09 Visiting Beijing - Introduction

In the golden autumn of October, I arrived in Beijing as scheduled! A friend said that among the four seasons, autumn in Beijing is the most beautiful and the most suitable for traveling. Therefore, choosing to visit Beijing at this time, I believe that from sight to mind, I will be able to enjoy the most beautiful experience. The last time I came to Beijing, I was still using a film camera. After many years, with the 5D and G10, I prepared to take full advantage of shooting all the wonders of the capital Beijing.

Approaching the old city center of the capital, the historical sites, hutongs, and siheyuans are well preserved. Around the Forbidden City, there are no particularly tall buildings. However, the National Grand Theater west of the Great Hall of the People, with its giant egg shape, is not quite harmonious with the solemn style of the buildings around Tiananmen Square.

Walking out of Xihuangchenggen Nanjie and crossing Lingjing Hutong, you arrive at Fuyou Street. To the east of Fuyou Street is Zhongnanhai, where the neatly arranged cypress trees in front of the red high walls are more like guards on duty. At each side gate of Zhongnanhai here, there are handsome armed police standing straight. Compared to the uniforms we are familiar with, they have an additional white cross-shoulder belt.

Walking south along Fuyou Street, you reach West Chang'an Street, and the view suddenly opens up. From here to the east is Tiananmen! Chang'an Street is very flat and wide, estimated to be ten lanes in both directions. The ornate street lamps installed on Chang'an Street, which have surveillance cameras and broadcast speakers, were renovated before the 60th anniversary National Day military parade, with their height increased.

The southern gate of Zhongnanhai, "Xinhua Gate," has a grand classical palace-style facade. The slogans on both sides are majestic, and a Zhongnanhai bodyguard patrols the door. This is called a mobile guard post! Inside Xinhua Gate, there is a screen inscribed with "Serve the People." At the time, I was somewhat moved; this phrase has profound meaning and must always be remembered.

Finally, the magnificent Tiananmen Gate appeared before my eyes, with its imposing majesty. This place is a symbol of the cohesion of all the Chinese people, a symbol of the great motherland. In front of Tiananmen, there is a sea of people, mainly taking photos as souvenirs. The white jade-carved pillars, stone lions, Jinshui Bridge, and the red walls and gold-topped Tiananmen form a touching picture.

Looking across Chang'an Street to Tiananmen Square, the rising sun shines brilliantly, and the Monument to the People's Heroes, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and ethnic columns are clearly visible.

Continuously, groups of armed police pass by, public security SWAT teams and vehicles are stationed in front of the city tower on standby. There can be absolutely no room for error here.

Among the crowd, besides the constant flow of tourists entering the Forbidden City through Jinshui Bridge, foreigners also make up a large proportion. The special status of the capital and its brilliant long history are absolute factors attracting them.

The benches under the red palace walls on both sides of the city tower are the perfect place for tourists to rest. The carefully planned trip to Beijing in 2009 began on the morning of October 23rd.
