Basic Definition of White Fused Alumina

White fused alumina is made by cooling after smelting industrial aluminum oxide powder at a temperature above 2000 degrees Celsius in an electric arc furnace. It is then crushed, shaped, and magnetically separated to remove iron before being screened into various grit sizes. Its texture is dense, hardness is high, and the grain shape is angular. It is suitable for making ceramic and resin bonded grinding tools as well as for grinding, polishing, sandblasting, precision casting (special white alumina for fine casting), etc. It can also be used to manufacture advanced refractory materials. The designation "WA" conforms to international general standards and national standards, with most products intended for export, though a certain amount is also supplied domestically. The product's grit size is produced according to international standards and various country-specific standards, and can be processed according to customer requirements. Common grit sizes range from F4 to F220, with chemical composition varying depending on the grit size. A notable feature is its small crystal size and impact resistance; if processed and crushed using an autogenous mill, the particles are mostly spherical with clean surfaces that easily bond with binders.

Density of White Fused Alumina:

There are two types of density: bulk density and true density of white fused alumina.

Bulk density: 1.53~1.99 g/cm³. The bulk density of abrasives is related to factors such as the abrasive's grit size, particle size distribution, type, and particle shape. Generally speaking, coarse-grit abrasives have a higher bulk density than fine-grit abrasives, and mixed-grit abrasives have a higher bulk density than single-grit abrasives.

Particle density: 3.95~4.0 g/cm³. Recently, Zhengzhou Dayu Company's special true density for fine casting has reached 4.1 g/cm³. The true density of abrasives refers to the mass of abrasives contained per unit volume (excluding open pore volume).

Basic Grit Size: 45%~55%. Basic grit size is an important indicator to ensure grinding results and should be appropriately controlled during production, although this may slow down the production speed.
