As the heating season arrived, Mr. Su started to use his underfloor heating system. However, after only a week of usage, he noticed that large areas of his floor had buckled and the skirting boards began to soak and blister. Mr. Su immediately contacted the underfloor heating company. After inspection, it was discovered that a section of the pipe in the living room had developed cracks and was continuously leaking water, causing serious water accumulation on the floor.
Mr. Su demanded that the company replace the pipes and compensate for the damage to the flooring and other装修 losses. However, the underfloor heating company claimed that pressure tests were conducted during installation, and there were no issues with the quality of the underfloor heating products or the design and construction itself. It was likely that subsequent floor laying processes caused the pipe damage. Therefore, they were unwilling to assume liability for compensation. With no other options, Mr. Su filed a complaint with the Licang Branch of Qingdao Administration for Industry and Commerce.
After an on-site investigation, the industrial and commercial personnel determined that the composite flooring Mr. Su had laid did not require the use of nail guns during installation. Thus, the possibility of human error damaging the underfloor heating pipes was minimal. According to the "Shandong Consumer Protection Regulations," the warranty period for decoration and renovation projects must be no less than two years, and the anti-seepage period for kitchens, bathrooms, and exterior walls with waterproofing requirements is five years. The damage to the underfloor heating pipes within the warranty period led to partial destruction of the home's flooring. Therefore, the underfloor heating installation party should bear the responsibility for repairs and corresponding compensation. After mediation, the underfloor heating company agreed to compensate the consumer 7000 yuan for the loss of flooring, walls, and other decorations.
It is understood that in recent years, as a new type of heating method, underfloor heating has become a new favorite in home renovations. Complaints related to this have also been on the rise. Some small companies, in order to control costs, choose low-quality and cheap pipes and auxiliary materials, increase the spacing between pipes during installation, or use lower-grade specifications of pipes, causing the underfloor heating system to fail to reach expected results and even potentially creating safety hazards. Industrial and commercial personnel remind consumers that when selecting underfloor heating systems, one should first choose reputable and qualified companies, avoiding short-term cost savings that could lead to future problems. Additionally, during later ground construction work, one should try to avoid nailing, inserting wooden wedges, cutting stones, or other operations that may damage the underfloor heating pipes and cause leaks. Furthermore, regular maintenance and upkeep of the underfloor heating equipment should be carried out to prevent blockages due to impurities accumulating in the pipes.
