Seminar on the Application of Non-Weight Calibration Devices for Large-Scale Weighing Instruments Held

On September 8th, the Metrology Department of the National Technical Supervision Bureau held a seminar in Fuzhou at the Fujian Academy of Metrological Sciences to discuss the application of non-weight calibration devices for large-scale weighing instruments. Attending the seminar were Liu Xiaohua, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Chinese Weighing Association, along with representatives from relevant weighing instrument manufacturers: Mettler Toledo, Jinan Jinkong, Baoji Siwei, and Zhengzhou Hengke.

The meeting was presided over by Director Chen Hong of the Metrology Department of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), while Deputy Inspector Ma Sulin of the same department outlined the purpose of the seminar. The high-precision load measuring instrument developed by the Fujian Academy of Metrological Sciences using hydraulic force measurement principles has passed technical evaluation. The seminar aimed to solicit opinions and suggestions from relevant weighing instrument manufacturers regarding the practical calibration of large-scale weighing instruments using this device.

Chief Engineer Liu of the Fujian Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau first introduced the development status of the high-precision load measuring instrument based on hydraulic force measurement principles. This device has already been technically appraised by an expert panel, achieving phased results, with prototype equipment successfully calibrating three truck scales. After the introduction, the attending representatives visited the experimental equipment on-site in the morning and engaged in lively discussions in the afternoon.

The representatives present acknowledged the originality and advanced nature of the device, considering it a good solution to address the current lack of calibration methods for specific scenarios in China. However, they also noted that the device cannot replace the task of value transmission using weights. Additionally, further discussion is needed regarding the accuracy, long-term stability, reliability, and legal validity of the force traceability of this device. The research and development unit expressed its intention to improve the device further based on the opinions and suggestions gathered.
