At this point, her friend who was with her could no longer hold back and said to the reporter: "Xiao Guanghui does not dare to say it, so I'll say it for her. Actually, there is a chance that her legs can be cured, but the treatment cost will be 100,000 yuan. For this reason, she gave up her dream of walking like a normal person. I hope she won't give up on this wish."
Life went on like this, seemingly without direction. But a few years ago, an unexpected experience led her to join a support team, which helped her find her purpose. Originally, she had a happy and complete family, but when her child was 11 years old, her husband suddenly decided to divorce her, thus beginning a different chapter in her life. After the divorce, she relied on handicrafts and a monthly disability subsidy of 150 yuan to make ends meet. Sometimes, she would auction her cross-stitch works to help others; other times, she would give them as gifts to friends to express her gratitude.
In a small house on Anxing Road in Licang District, various cross-stitch patterns were hanging. Xiao Guanghui, at the age of 45, sat on the sofa, continuing to work on her cross-stitch embroidery, creating a large "Fu" (blessing) character! This character was her dream; she hoped that she could live like a normal person, but her congenital disability prevented her from walking with both feet. Her right leg was 4 cm shorter than her left, and for 45 years, she had never experienced walking on both feet.
To others, Xiao Guanghui was an unfortunate woman, suffering from congenital disabilities, losing her husband, and living a hard life. But in front of the reporter, her face was rosy, and her permed hair was elegantly coiled on top of her head. She said: "No matter what, I dress myself neatly every day so that others won't feel awkward when they see me."
Xiao Guanghui said: "Actually, people who commit mistakes are originally kind-hearted. They just got confused and went down the wrong path. What they need most is care and attention from society. Do not ignore or discriminate against them. As long as we communicate sincerely with them, they will change." Thus, she joined the support team, helping those in prison by bringing sunshine into their hearts and helping their families overcome difficulties.
When asked several times if she had any more wishes to achieve, she hesitated and then said: "Now I only want to help more people and do my best within my capabilities. Helping them is equal to helping myself. When they are happy, I am happy too."
"One of my disabled friends, facing financial difficulties, had a daughter who suffered from leukemia. To raise some money for her child's treatment, her husband began stealing and was eventually imprisoned with a life sentence. Not long after, the child passed away, leaving behind a disabled wife." At this time, Xiao Guanghui became a regular visitor to her home, taking care of this disabled friend.
