Today, I saw a reprint from Singapore's (Straits Times) on Cankao Xiaoxi titled "Being truly addicted is no joke!" Psychologist Angelina Hu attempted to help her children break free from their addiction to online games. She personally tried playing the online game "World of Warcraft" since December last year. Before long, she found herself unable to stop, playing for over two hours every workday and even longer on weekends. Her conclusion from personal experience was: Yes! Playing games can be very addictive!
It was in the New Year of 2002, we had just moved into a new house, setting up a computer in the study with broadband access. I started trying out the Korean game "Lineage" which had just begun public testing. Once I started playing, I couldn't stop! From when the game was free to later buying prepaid cards, I became uncontrollable, playing from morning until around 4 or 5 o'clock every evening, starting from New Year and continuing through the Spring Festival! I didn't go anywhere during the first lunar month. Later, I rarely went to the company, neglecting the business! I would push tasks aside. Only when there was no other way would I attend to them, and my wife began to say: Look at you! You're like a different person!! Talking to others makes you seem like a fool! Totally distracted!. The company's business volume plummeted drastically!! Because I was addicted to online games!! The company seemed to have lost its spirit!!! That was truly indulgence leading to the loss of ambition!!
After a difficult decision, I moved the computer out of the house!! I canceled the broadband!! I still vividly remember the feeling of coming home on the first day after work!!! Suddenly changing a habit of nearly a year! That emptiness in my heart!!
I don't know how long it took, but finally, I broke free from the painful torment of not playing games!!!
The American Psychological Association categorizes video game addiction as "behavioral excess," similar to gambling!
Currently, Dr. Feng from the National Mental Health Center predicts that video game addiction will become more widespread, and with computers becoming more prevalent and games more engaging, the situation will worsen!
Dr. Feng says: People who are addicted can reduce their gaming time or quit gaming addiction by themselves. This means staying away from computers and gaming centers. It requires willpower and self-control.
I did it!!!!!!
