Chinese medicine care application in the treatment of 192 cases of cervical spondylosis reported

Cervical spondylosis is a common clinical and frequently occurring disease. Our hospital treated 356 cases of cervical disease from 1989 to 1998 using Chinese medicine care application with an agent plus cervical traction therapy, and simple use of cervical traction therapy. Now, we analyze the comparison of these two treatments as follows.
1.1 General Information
Clinical data selected 356 cases of patients with a mean age of 58 years, duration of 1 year to 5 years, both neck and shoulder pain, arm numbness, headache, neck discomfort, sedentary or watching television for too long worsened symptoms. Examination: neck stiffness, limited mobility, tenderness at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th cervical vertebrae and paraspinal regions, positive nerve root traction test and cranial pressure test. X-rays showed: disappearance of cervical physiological curvature, anterior vertebral bone hyperplasia from C3-C7 vertebral bodies. Selected cases were randomized into the observation group and the control group (cervical traction group) with 164 cases in the control group and 192 cases in the observation group (traditional Chinese medicine care dressing group). There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of age, gender, and disease.
1.2 Treatment
Control group was treated with cervical traction therapy; the observation group used traditional Chinese medicine care dressing agent on the basis of cervical traction with the following prescription: 12g Speranskia, 15g Wujiapi, 15g Schisandra, 15g East Hawthorn, 12g Angelica, 10g safflower, 12g red peony root, 10g Rhizoma, 10g independent living, 10g wind gun aconite, 6g pepper 30g. Usage: Place the drug into gauze bags, fasten them in a basin, add boiling water for 15 minutes, cool to a comfortable temperature, apply dressing to the affected area for 30 minutes each time, twice daily, each dose once every four times, 10 days for one course of treatment.
1.3 Evaluation Criteria:
After one course of treatment, pain and numbness disappeared (or alleviated pain but still showed slight arm numbness), neck activity increased, with no recurrence within six months; ineffective: no improvement of symptoms after treatment.
1.4 Treatment Results:
The average healing time for the control group was 14.5 days, while the average healing time for the traditional Chinese medicine care application agent group was 10 days. After treatment, the control group of 164 cases had 144 cases effective, with an efficiency rate of 87.8%; the Chinese medicine care application group of 192 cases had 190 cases effective, with an efficiency rate of 99.0% (Table 1).

Discussion:
Hyperostosis, also known as bone spurs, osteophytes, hypertrophic arthritis, is common among the elderly and is a chronic degenerative joint disease in orthopedics. Clinically, it commonly occurs in the cervical and lumbar regions. It is a stubborn disease in Chinese medicine that is often hard to cure. Chinese medicine believes that the main bone comes from the kidney and liver reinforcement, with tendons attached to bones. In middle age, the kidneys and livers gradually decline, the kidney cannot support the main bone, liver deficiency cannot raise ribs, combined with wind-cold-dampness evil invasion or trauma, resulting in blood loss, falling into stasis increase will form the disease. The main clinical manifestations include neck, back, lower back pain, numbness, movement disorder, sedentary, long-established and overcast rain worsens symptoms, the corresponding body may be associated with radioactive numbness, pain, sicker. There is no specific drug treatment.
I care dressing agent in the treatment of this disease uses traditional Chinese medicine, with prescriptions including Speranskia, Wujiapi, Schisandra, East Hawthorn Pickle, Shujin Show tendon, similar to physical therapy in permeation, relieve muscle spasms, improve and reduce the peripheral nerves, blood vessels stretch, stimulation, oppression; angelica, red pills, red peony, habitat, blood circulation, Tongluozhitong. Notopterygium, independent living, wind, the gun aconite Qufeng wins wet, yang and cold; pepper narcotic analgesic. Various drugs with blood circulation, chills and wins wet, Tongluozhitong have a therapeutic effect on the ligaments stretch of proliferative diseases of the bone muscle pain and nerve vascular compression and irritation symptoms, coupled with the daily times cervical traction, so the effect is more obvious. The dose group of Chinese medicine care application has a high cure rate, short hospital stay, significant difference compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The application of Chinese medicine care to apply the agent treatment of cervical disease, the recurrence rate is not higher than other treatments.
