Recently, a reporter visited the Guo family and saw Guo Zhanzheng, only 15 years old, and his frequently ill mother Liu Qin. Their life is extremely difficult. In order to treat the illness of the family members, Guo Zhanzheng's father Guo Junhua has already gone out to work.
Hepatolenticular degeneration: also known as Wilson's disease, commonly called "copper man syndrome", is a hereditary copper metabolic disorder that causes liver cirrhosis and brain degenerative diseases mainly in the basal ganglia. Patients suffer from gene defects leading to abnormal metabolism of copper by the body, causing excessive copper deposits in different organs, thereby generating toxicity and damage to tissues. Clinically, symptoms will appear in the liver, brain nerves, and mental aspects.
The tragic experience of the Guo family quickly spread locally, followed by an outpouring of love: the Wutai Town Party Committee and government helped the Guo family secure two low-income security spots, the Wutai Town Civil Affairs Office donated 1000 yuan, the Dancheng County Civil Affairs Bureau donated 1000 yuan, the county's top leaders helped secure 10,000 yuan, and the villagers of Guozhuang Village also donated money. During the Guo family's most difficult times, their three daily meals were provided by the villagers.
In Zhoukou, it was reported that in Fangying Administrative Village, Guozhuang Village, Wutai Town, Dancheng County, the brothers Guo Zhanying and Guo Zhanzheng successively contracted a strange disease. Three years ago, the elder brother died from the untreated disease, and now the younger brother's condition is severe and urgently needs treatment.

A Brothers successively contract the same strange disease
Currently, with the help of the Dancheng County Government, County Civil Affairs Bureau, Wutai Town Party Committee and government, and all sectors of society, Guo Zhanzheng, after three years of treatment, has passed the first critical period and has returned to school, but still suffers from unclear speech and other symptoms and needs immediate second-stage treatment. However, due to lack of subsequent treatment fees, Liu Qin cries every day.
Later, through the recommendation of Beijing experts, Guo Zhanzheng's disease was finally diagnosed at the Chinese Hepatolenticular Degeneration Research Institute - hepatolenticular degeneration, commonly known as "copper man syndrome". The only treatment method is copper removal. To be cured requires spending more than 200,000 yuan, and after being cured, about 20,000 yuan per year is needed for copper removal rehabilitation treatment.

Although the disease was confirmed, the treatment is in a dilemma
Previously, because Liu Qin was busy treating her eldest son, even when she caught a severe cold, she didn't want to spend money on treatment, which led to lung corrosion. It is said that during her most serious illness, she coughed up blood three times in one week.
After experiencing the pain of losing a child, Mr. and Mrs. Guo Junhua fell seriously ill. However, their misfortune did not end there. In April 2008, their second son, then also 12 years old, Guo Zhanzheng, began showing the same symptoms as his older brother.
At the age of 46, Liu Qin told reporters that she has two sons and one daughter, originally having a happy family with some savings. In August 2004, her then 12-year-old eldest son Guo Zhanying suddenly started drooling, speaking unclearly, and showed symptoms of muscle atrophy. Subsequently, the couple took Guo Zhanying all over the country for diagnosis and treatment, administering medicine for conditions like brain atrophy, nerve damage, and stroke. Just before the Spring Festival in 2008, despite using up all their savings, Guo Zhanying still succumbed to the disease.
