Jiujiang University is a full-time undergraduate public college approved by the Ministry of Education, and it recruits students from 30 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) across the country. Its educational history can be traced back to the Danford School founded in 1901 by the American Christian Methodist Church. Its current operating system is co-built by military and local governments as well as provincial and municipal governments.
The university is located in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, a famous cultural city in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, at the foot of Mount Lu, on the bank of the Yangtze River, and by the side of Poyang Lake. The famous city, famous mountain, famous river, and famous lake have created the spiritual charm of Jiujiang University. Especially, the Bai Luhong Academy, which has a thousand-year history and enjoys the reputation of being the "first academy in the world," has given Jiujiang University a profound cultural atmosphere and educational environment.
The university covers an area of 2757 acres and currently has four campuses: the main campus, Xundong campus, Lufeng campus, and Nanhu campus. The total floor area of school buildings is 780,000 square meters, with more than 30,000 full-time students on campus. The university also has one affiliated hospital and two affiliated secondary schools.
The university currently has 1683 full-time teachers, among whom 546 hold senior titles; 570 have doctoral or master's degrees; 32 are doctoral or master's supervisors; 1 is a cross-century academic leader selected by the Ministry of Finance; 1 is a national accounting leader (reserve) talent; 41 are discipline leaders and young backbone teachers of Jiangxi universities; 4 are renowned teachers of Jiangxi universities; 6 are selected into the first and second levels of the "Talents Project" of Jiangxi Province; 9 enjoy special allowances from the State Council and the provincial government. In recent three years, the university has specially hired more than 100 well-known experts and scholars as part-time and guest professors. Among them, Academician Yuan Longping, known as the "father of hybrid rice," was hired as the honorary professor of the university; Academician Yang Shuzi was hired as the honorary president and professor of our university; Academician Pan Jiluand was hired as the director of the academic committee of our university.
The university currently has 21 secondary colleges. It offers ten major disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management. There are 159 undergraduate and junior college majors. There are 6 provincial key disciplines, 12 university key disciplines, 2 national teaching reform pilot majors, and 8 provincial model majors for higher vocational and specialized education.
The university has 25 research institutions such as the International Rural Medical Education Research Center, the Mount Lu Culture Research Center, the Accounting and Auditing Research Institute, the Tourism Development Research Center, the Numerical Control Technology Research Institute, the Civil Engineering Survey and Design Research Institute, the Applied Chemistry Research Institute, the Materials and Forming Engineering Research Institute, the Foreign Trade Research Center, the Applied Mathematics and Computational Science Research Institute, and the Poyang Lake Ecological Economy Research Center.
The university currently has 808 classrooms of various functions and 159 laboratories (centers). Among them, there is 1 provincial key laboratory, 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 provincial key laboratory of higher education institutions, 1 provincial key research base of humanities and social sciences of higher education institutions, 9 jointly built basic laboratories by the central and local governments, 11 jointly built characteristic advantage discipline laboratories by the central and local governments for higher education institutions, and 7 basic laboratories have passed the provincial basic laboratory qualification evaluation. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 1.54 billion yuan. There are 8 on-campus internship bases and 183 off-campus internship bases.
The computer network of the university covers the entire campus, realizing the networking of teaching and scientific research, bibliographic retrieval, and office management; there are also public service platforms such as literature resources, modern educational technology, networks, analytical testing, measurement and control platforms, engineering calculations, and life science specimen exhibition halls.
The library has 2.459 million volumes of paper books and 1.677 million volumes of e-books. There is 1 central library and 2 branch libraries, with a total of 18 reading rooms and 9316 seats.
The university continues to strengthen infrastructure construction. Teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, libraries, information technology buildings, athletics fields, athletics pavilions, gymnasiums, swimming pools, theaters, student activity centers, etc., are distributed across various campuses, with complete facilities for student living, learning, exercise, and entertainment.
The university attaches great importance to introducing foreign educational resources, drawing on advanced foreign educational concepts, models, and mechanisms, and promoting educational and teaching reforms. Stable cooperation and exchange relationships have been established with universities, research institutions, and management departments in more than ten countries such as the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Thailand, and India. Approved by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education, the university has established long-term cooperative educational relationships with Sunderland University in the UK for mutual exchange of students and faculty development; exchanges students with Chiang Mai University in Thailand; and has already recruited international students from India, Japan, and the United States to study medicine and Chinese at the university. The university actively hires foreign teachers and invites overseas experts and scholars to give lectures. The International Rural Medical Education Center of the university has received strong support from the China Medical Board, accumulating funds of over 20 million US dollars. Using the platform of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council for Chinese language education, the university seizes the opportunities for promoting Chinese language internationally, actively establishes overseas "Confucius Institutes", and has become a partner of the Confucius Institute of the University of Poitiers in France. The university also actively participates in training overseas Chinese language teachers, having trained Chinese language for overseas Chinese language teachers multiple times and sent more than a dozen teachers to Southeast Asia to teach Chinese.
The university has achieved remarkable results in comprehensively promoting quality education, and the eight-character motto of "Compete for Knowledge, Pursue Learning, Cultivate Virtue, Practice Firmly" has gradually taken root in people's hearts. In recent years, excellent results have been achieved in various competitions such as the National College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition, the National English Speech Contest, the National College Students Advertising Art Competition, the National Youth Outstanding New Talent Selection Competition, the International University Dragon Boat Invitation Competition, the International Dragon Lion Elite Competition, and the Dance Competition for University Students in East China.
The university attaches great importance to graduate employment work, vigorously conducts employment guidance and promotion, and establishes and expands employment bases. The average year-end employment rate of graduates is over 80%, receiving good reviews from employers.
