Yahoo homepage swap for free coffee

Yahoo is giving out coffee! This Friday (September 22nd), Yahoo will offer each user a free cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee (it seems Yahoo users in China won't be able to enjoy this, though they might not mind if it were McDonald's coffee instead), but there’s a catch: you must set Yahoo as your homepage.

Yahoo says this event is to celebrate the following: the website's new look (to be honest, I haven’t visited Yahoo since '98, and today when I checked, it indeed looks very different); the upgraded email service (I haven't used Yahoo Mail for years, and even tried logging in with my old account several times without success); and the new search service (a Q&A model, which seems similar to what Baidu offers). By giving away coffee, Yahoo hopes to encourage people to try these new services on their platform (even without the coffee incentive, I still gave it a shot; after all, it pays to be fair).

Perhaps this is just a gimmick by Yahoo. Do they really expect that those who set Yahoo as their homepage on September 22nd will keep it there after receiving their free coffee, instead of switching back to Google or another page on the same day?

It remains to be seen whether this will prompt Google to launch a similar campaign, like offering t-shirts for setting Google as your homepage or something like that?
