The box office success of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has made the production company very optimistic about the potential earnings of spin-off films from the X-Men series. In addition to plans for a sequel to "Wolverine," another film, "Deadpool," is also in the works.
In the comic book X-Men, Wade Wilson, known as Deadpool, is a mercenary who talks too much and only cares about money. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, he undergoes a genetic mutation surgery to become an X-Weapon, gaining a combination of superpowers from various mutants, making him one of the most terrifying villains in the comics. This role is almost tailor-made for Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, because in the original comic, this character was described as a mix of "a shaggy dog and Ryan Reynolds." At the end of "Wolverine," after the credits roll, there is a hidden scene where viewers can see that Deadpool is not destroyed by Wolverine; he crawls out from a pile of rubble and makes a "shh" gesture to the audience, setting the stage for the spin-off movie "Deadpool."
As for the sequel to "Wolverine," Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, revealed that filming will take place in Japan and will include scenes of battles with Japanese samurai. The choice to film in Japan is due to Hugh Jackman's large fan base in the country.
Besides "Wolverine" and "Deadpool," Fox is also preparing to shoot a film about "Magneto." Sir Ian McKellen, the 70-year-old British actor, will take on the role of Magneto, making him the main character in the film. Additionally, a prequel titled "X-Men: First Class" is also in development.
