The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and MetaMachine, the parent company of eDonkey, have reached a settlement. MetaMachine has agreed to pay the RIAA $30 million and cease distribution of software related to eDonkey and eDonkey2000. It is rumored that if you visit the edonkey website now, your IP address will be recorded (although it may not pose a substantial threat to you, having your information on file isn't pleasant, so 8"O" didn't attempt it). Additionally, when opening an eDonkey connection server, a window may appear prompting the automatic uninstallation of the eDonkey program (if anyone has encountered this phenomenon, please leave a comment!).
One of the P2P "mega-donkeys" has fallen. The only companies that haven't yet been targeted by the RIAA are BitTorrent, Warez P2P, Limewire, and Soulseek. Will they also be completely wiped out?
