Professor Zhang Wuchang the other day published a blog post in which he elaborated on the negative effects brought by the Internet. "The amount of abuse is incredibly high, and this makes me worry about the academic pursuit of China's youth. When I visit campuses in Mainland China, I meet more good students there than in Hong Kong. Those who curse or make a fuss online are apparently not made of the right stuff for studying," he said. "Coase and Alchian both thought that the innate intelligence of Chinese people was the highest on Earth. If they understood Chinese and read so many irrational comments online, they might change their minds." (New Express, March 21)
