The official release date and pricing for Microsoft's highly anticipated next-generation operating system, Windows Vista, have now been revealed, as the renowned e-commerce site Amazon has begun a pre-order campaign for Windows Vista. The site also disclosed Vista's official release date: January 30, 2007, which aligns with the final release date Microsoft had previously committed to.

Below are the prices listed on Amazon (via ZDNet) for each version of Vista (the price on the left is for the full version, while the one on the right is for the upgrade version):

- Windows Vista Home Basic, $199/$99.95

- Windows Vista Home Premium, $239/$159

- Windows Vista Business, $299/$199

- Windows Vista Ultimate, $399/$259

These prices are still relatively high. If you're like me and really appreciate Vista's transparent interface, and you also happen to be planning to buy a new computer, you might want to consider purchasing a computer that comes with an authentic copy of Vista, which could be more cost-effective. Of course, I'm referring to a legitimate copy.
