From March 13 to March 15, China Guardian will hold special previews of three sessions for the 2008 Spring Auction at the Beijing International Hotel. These are: "Treasures Returning - Fine Qing Dynasty Porcelain," "Modern and Contemporary Ceramic Art," and "Modern and Contemporary Sculpture Art." All auction items will be showcased in advance. Among these, both the "Modern and Contemporary Ceramic Art" session and the "Modern and Contemporary Sculpture Art" session are being introduced by China Guardian for the first time.
No longer favoring ancient over modern
Modern and contemporary art is gradually becoming an emerging field for investment and collection. Valuing the ancient without neglecting the modern was the original intention behind China Guardian's introduction of modern and contemporary ceramic art and sculpture art. The selected artworks in these two sessions have all been recognized by industry experts as top-tier works. Through the exhibition, a wide range of art enthusiasts will have their first opportunity to systematically understand and appreciate the current state of Chinese contemporary art.
A senior expert in the industry once said that there is something that everyone, from heads of state to ordinary people, likes, and that is only fine arts and crafts. It is a carrier of culture and art, reflecting history and craftsmanship, and it is an embodiment of a country's overall level. With the increasing maturity of collectors and investors and their attention to the "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ceramic Art" and "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Sculpture Art" sectors, they are bound to become new forces in the secondary market and eventually become mainstream art.
Enriching contemporary art collections
The "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ceramic Art" exhibition gathers more than 80 outstanding works by over 60 prominent ceramic artists from Jingdezhen, Yixing, Longquan, Shiwan, Dehua, university professors, professional artists, and national masters such as Shi Yu Ren, Zhou Guo Zhen, and Qin Xi Lin. Similarly, the "Modern and Contemporary Sculpture Art" session selects about 80 excellent works by approximately 60 distinguished sculptors, including works made from bamboo, wood, ivory, jade, and stone. This includes works by artists like Xu Bing Fang, known as the "first family of contemporary bamboo carving."
In the past 30 years, with the development of China's socio-economy, the continuous rise in private art collections and the art market, the long-dormant new art industry has already sprouted new vitality. Industry insiders believe that the production level of contemporary new art pieces continues to improve, whether in terms of craftsmanship, subject selection, or detail, all have seen great developments compared to the past, thus gradually becoming darlings in the art collection market.
