Common Mistakes Made by SEO Beginners:

1. Altering Titles and Keywords

Altering titles is something they believe must be done, and done immediately. A newly launched site that hasn't been online for more than 3 months, in their eyes, if the title doesn't look appealing, it should be changed right away. Some novice SEOs don't care about the search engine's feelings, changing the title four or five times a month until they themselves get confused, not knowing what title or keywords are good anymore. Moreover, they think since it's a new site, it doesn't matter much. In fact, they're wrong; because it's a new site, modifying the title and keywords can have a significant impact on the new site. I've personally experienced this; before the new site had been online for three months, I changed the title once and added some keywords. All five of the homepage keywords were ranked beyond 300th place, with some even ranking beyond 500th place. These are all hard-learned lessons.

2. Keyword Stuffing in Page Descriptions

Page descriptions are crucial for a website, but in the eyes of some SEOs, it's merely a great place to stuff keywords to enhance relevance. Some SEOers would love to put all the website's keywords into the description. Not only does this practice harm user experience, but using it to increase page relevance is also a form of self-deception. The official SEO guidelines published by Baidu clearly specify that apart from special pages requiring descriptions, the rest should allow search engines to automatically extract descriptions. Some people believe this slows down the webpage's indexing speed, but they haven't considered the high weight the search engine would assign if the page is indexed. This is why Baidu products like Baidu Zhidao, Baidu Wenku, and Baidu Baike have such high weights in the Baidu search engine. However, today, very few websites do this; most automatically extract the first 255 characters of an article as the page description. In fact, this practice is detrimental to SEO because normal page descriptions displayed on search engines contain 150 characters, so how do the remaining hundred characters show up? They appear as "..." Thus, within the 150-character description, at most, three keywords should be included; any more will harm user experience.

3. Irregular Website Updates and External Link Growth

Many SEO beginners adopt such an attitude: updating the website or posting external links when they have time, ignoring it completely when they don't. Over time, a website's snapshot, indexing frequency, and external link growth frequency fall into a chaotic state. This practice is not good for keyword rankings. Some websites don't need frequent updates, such as corporate sites, but their external link growth frequency can be controlled. However, portal sites and news sites must be updated regularly to maintain a fixed indexing frequency from search engines. Website updates and external links must be regular. Of course, a website with data growing daily will definitely have different rankings compared to one that grows only once a month.
