Virus masquerades as Baidu IM to spread opportunistically, beware of downloading

With the gradual launch of Baidu's IM tool, Baidu Hi, people’s attention on it has increased dramatically. Some virus makers have also jumped on the bandwagon and began to use its popularity to spread viruses.

"Trojan viruses often disguise themselves as social hot topics to lure users into downloading them for propagation, thereby stealing private information from users' computers. Kingsoft Antivirus engineer, Li Tiejun introduced that after analyzing the viruses disguised as Baidu IM, a virus named "Delf Trojan Downloader" was discovered. After being implanted with this Trojan, users can download more other Trojans via the network, especially some account-stealing Trojans, which pose great risks to users' online property security. Currently, Kingsoft Antivirus can be used to clean up this virus.

Regarding this matter, Baidu also issued an official statement, saying that Baidu Hi is currently only in internal testing within the company and no external network downloads are provided. Regarding "some lawbreakers who begin to use this hot topic event for Trojan virus spreading or account trading activities", Baidu reminds Internet users not to download it yet to avoid becoming victims.

It is uncertain whether the “leakage” of Baidu Hi was intentionally done by Baidu, but even if it wasn’t, Baidu still seems to have issues in employee management. There is no definite news yet on when Baidu Hi will officially launch.
