Currently, there are mainly two types of air conditioners: one is the traditional fixed-frequency air conditioner, and the other is the inverter air conditioner. Fixed-frequency air conditioners have been developed for a long time, and their technology is very mature.
The inverter air conditioner only appeared in the 1970s, but it has advantages such as high-efficiency energy saving, comfortable body sensation, sensitive control, and low noise. From the development trend, it will gradually replace the traditional fixed-frequency air conditioner and become the mainstream of air conditioner development. The concept of a fixed-frequency air conditioner was proposed relative to the emergence of inverter air conditioners, mainly referring to its compressor being powered by a fixed-frequency AC power supply. The number of magnetic pole pairs and slip rate are only related to the structure of the motor and are fixed values. Therefore, when the frequency of the AC power supply is fixed, the speed of the motor is also fixed. For this reason, fixed-frequency air conditioners are sometimes also called fixed-speed air conditioners. The total cooling or heating capacity of a fixed-frequency air conditioner is adjusted by changing the on-off time of the compressor. If the compressor is on for a longer time and off for a shorter time, then the total cooling or heating capacity of the air conditioner is greater; conversely, the total cooling or heating capacity of the air conditioner is smaller. This leads to the frequent start-up of the compressor when the air conditioner is working. When the compressor starts, the current is large, and the electricity consumption is also large. Since the compressor of the fixed-frequency air conditioner is powered by a fixed-frequency AC power supply, and the total cooling or heating capacity only needs to change the length of its on and off time, the electrical system of the fixed-frequency air conditioner is relatively simple.
