Under the northern sky, one can appreciate the Jiangnan landscape with a different mindset and charm. It's a pity that there are fewer pavilions, lakes, and bridges in Jiangnan, but it adds more elegance and sentiment.
After the rain, it is quiet. The bustling crowd of walkers all hide at home enjoying delicious food, chatting with their families about trivial matters, and having a harmonious time with their loved ones.
The evening breeze penetrates through the clothes, bringing a refreshing coolness that makes one shiver constantly, and the heart also becomes cold. When I was young, I didn't have this kind of experience. Am I really getting old? Can't withstand the gentle whispers of the cold wind after the rain.
The mist in the air gently touches my face, damp, soft, and smooth, just like the fresh appearance of bamboo shoots after the rain being blown by the wind. I would then imagine how good it would be if I lived in a Jiangnan town. But then again, maybe I couldn't handle the tender and affectionate Jiangnan, and could only look on with envy and long for it from afar.
The sky began to drizzle again…
I love the Zhuque Bridge splashed by the Jiangnan smoke and rain, the Wu Yi Lane, full of poetic charm and serene beauty. If the north were like this, it would be unbearable, and complaints would arise, affecting travel plans and moods. This is because the north lacks the clarity and brightness behind the Jiangnan mist, and you can't hear the gurgling hidden springs or see the elegant figures of talented scholars and beauties under the moonlight reciting poems and playing the lute. Also, the rough and bold northerners can't tolerate such lingering tenderness.
During prolonged rainy days, northerners can't handle this humidity, which might be the crux of the problem. At least, I hope it is.
The rain fell steadily for two whole days, not too heavy and not too light. It quietly stopped at dusk, but it still felt as if the sky wasn't satisfied, as if it was brewing something, nurturing something.
In such weather, I actually prefer to take a walk, alone or with a close friend on a quiet path. You can smell the fragrance of the soil, the flowers and grass, and the taste of rain, similar to the smell of the sea. That fishy smell, if not smelled for a long time, will make one miss it.
The post-rain sky is gray, giving a sense of sad romance. One always involuntarily imagines or worries about something. It always gives people a faint sense of sadness. I don't think sadness is based on melancholy, but rather a kind of happiness. Its happiness lies in the efforts, endurance, strength, willpower, and other excellent qualities behind the joy. So, sadness is also a kind of happiness. It's the pleasant surprise after enlightenment.
