Report from the 2011 China (Jiangsu) International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition, held in Nanjing on April 8th (reported by Jing'an Zhao and Guangyi Yu): During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, Jiangsu province enjoyed the best development environment for agricultural mechanization, with the widest service range, fastest development speed, and highest level of attention to agricultural mechanization. In 2010, the total power of agricultural machinery across the province reached 40 million kilowatts, an increase of nearly 30% compared to 2005. The mechanization level of grain and oil production reached 78%.
In 2011, machinery used in fisheries, animal husbandry, vegetable gardening, fruit orchards, and agricultural product processing all developed rapidly across the province. There were 97,600 large and medium-sized tractors and 65,300 rice transplanters, representing increases of 1.36 times and 3.4 times respectively over 2005 levels. The annual increase was more than 10,000 units.
Jiangsuās agricultural machinery manufacturing industry is relatively developed, having started early and built a good industrial foundation. The province produces over 4,000 types of agricultural machinery products, forming a considerable scale of industrial clusters. The areas around Taihu Lake and along the Yangtze River have become production gathering areas for new types of agricultural machinery. The output and sales of well-known agricultural machinery products hold an important share nationwide. High-performance transplanters and semi-feed combine harvesters produced in Jiangsu province account for more than 85% of the national market share.
In 2010, agricultural machinery production enterprises across the province seized the opportunity presented by increased national subsidies for machinery purchases. The entire agricultural machinery industry (including internal combustion engines) had annual sales revenue exceeding 60 billion yuan, with profits exceeding 4 billion yuan.
