A man from Xiantao became enraged at an unfortunate turn of events in his life and redirected his anger towards a "fortune-teller" who had once read his fortune. He tricked the fortune-teller into coming to his home where he proceeded to beat and torture him. Early yesterday morning, the Xiantao police successfully broke through the door and rescued the hostage.

The Fortune-Teller Was Kidnapped

Hu (male, 35 years old) from Guangwan Village in the Chenhe Town of Xiantao is a locally renowned fortune-teller. Despite having foretold fortunes for others for many years, he failed to foresee his own misfortune: being held hostage, beaten, and tortured for over three hours until the police arrived to rescue him.

At around 8 PM on July 30th, Hu received a call inviting him to perform a reading. Subsequently, Hu was picked up by a car and taken to a fourth-floor apartment in the Xiechang Street neighborhood of Chenhe Town in Xiantao City, near the Asian Games Village. Upon entering the house, Hu noticed a man (later identified as Wu) holding a gun, commanding three young men to kneel on the ground with his accomplices. When Hu attempted to flee, Wu threw him onto the living room sofa, after which he was severely beaten.

The Addicted Kidnapper Invites Police to Earn Merit

Hu was confused about why he was being beaten. As Wu continued to beat him, he revealed the reason: Hu had once told him that his "fate was bad." Coincidentally, since having his fortune read by Hu, Wu claimed his life had been consistently unlucky: strained relations with his wife, feeling betrayed by family and outsiders, and even being frequently followed. Wu blamed all these misfortunes on Hu not having accurately read his fate.

As Wu grew angrier, he grabbed a homemade rifle and began smashing Hu’s head with it. He also forced Hu to kneel while he took drugs and then called someone to bring more drugs. Hu offered to return the money he had charged for the original fortune-telling session. However, Wu replied, “I don’t want your money. It’s because you messed up my ‘fate.’ If I don’t kill you today, I will kill your son!” Later, Wu threatened to castrate Hu and tried to cut his clothes off with a knife but was stopped by Wu's uncle who arrived just in time.

Special Forces Rescue Without Incident

At around 2 AM yesterday, Officer Liu Li from the Chenhe Police Station of the Xiantao Public Security Bureau received a call: “This is a chance for you police officers to earn merit. There is something big here for you to handle.” Although the caller was vague, the officer remained highly alert and quickly rushed to the neighborhood where Wu lived. Upon arrival, the officers confirmed that the caller was indeed Wu. It turned out that due to excessive consumption of methamphetamine, Wu was abnormally excited and had proactively called the police. Seeing Wu’s unstable mental state and possession of a weapon, the officers engaged in conversation with him via loudspeaker to distract him and prevent him from losing control.

While the officers were negotiating with Wu, a woman arrived by taxi at the scene. After questioning, they learned that she was surnamed Xie and had come from Qianjiang specifically to deliver methamphetamine to Wu. The officers instructed Xie to use the opportunity of delivering the drugs to guide them into the scene. At around 4 AM, three special forces officers followed Xie upstairs. After knocking on the door, Wu immediately resisted upon seeing strangers. However, he was quickly subdued by the special forces who stormed in. The special forces then rescued Hu and captured several suspects one by one, confiscating rifles, knives, methamphetamine, and other items.
