Yesterday, a reader reported that around 19:30 on December 14, a security guard and an owner of Beijinyuan Juxiangyuan had an argument. More than twenty security guards surrounded the owner and beat him, making the scene quite "explosive". Later, the beaten owner called over more than twenty fellow countrymen. If the police hadn't arrived quickly, both sides would have definitely engaged in a group fight.
Both sides appeared ready for a showdown
Residents were scared to go out
The reporter learned that the person who had the argument with the security guard was the resident of room 602, unit 2, building 16 of Juxiangyuan.
"I heard a lot of noise outside, and when I went out, I saw many people down there, about thirty or forty. They were facing off across the hallway as if they were going to have a showdown," said a resident of unit 1, building 16, "They looked very fierce, so I didn't dare to go out. I just took a look from the window."
An uncle living nearby said, "At first, I saw four or five people fighting downstairs, one of them was Ms. Yu, the deputy director of the property management. After both sides were pulled apart, Ms. Yu called the community's security guards. Soon after, the security guards arrived, as did the police, and the residents of room 602 also called over more than twenty fellow countrymen. Those fellow countrymen even smashed the glass cover of the electricity meter in the hallway. A young man also urinated on someone else's electric bike, it was like a prank."
Dispute caused by property fees
It was understood that the tenant who had a conflict with the property management was not the owner of room 602 but a tenant. Four people lived in the house: Mr. Zhou and his wife Hong, Mr. Zhou's younger brother, and his wife's younger brother.
Mr. Zhou said, "We are from Fujian province, we've been in Hangzhou for three years doing hardware plumbing business."
Mr. Zhou said, "In May this year, our door lock was pried open. Since nothing was missing, we didn't report it to the police."
"One year's property fee is six or seven hundred yuan, no one cleans the hallway, and the security guards only guard the gate without patrolling the neighborhood. Our safety as residents is not guaranteed at all," Mr. Zhou said, "So why should I still pay the property fee?"
Mr. Zhou pre-paid 600 yuan for the property fee last August, but he hasn't paid this year's fee yet.
It was understood that the dispute occurred due to the issue of property fees.
Tenant claims pregnant wife was beaten
At 7:30 PM the night before, Mr. Zhou's house suddenly lost power.
Mr. Zhou's wife, Hong, said, "Before the power went out, the doorbell rang twice. I asked who it was through the door, but the other side didn't respond. After the power went out, I wanted to check the electric meter downstairs. When I went out, I saw someone crouching stealthily between the fifth and sixth floor stairways."
"I shouted loudly, 'What are you doing?' and chased down to ask what was going on," Hong said, "I caught up with a woman around 40 years old wearing a red coat. She said she was from the property management, but she wasn't wearing a uniform and had no credentials, so I didn't believe her. During the argument, that woman suddenly hit me with the flashlight she had in her hand."
Mr. Zhou said, "After hearing my wife shouting, I immediately rushed downstairs with my two younger brothers. 'I saw a woman pulling my wife's hair and fighting with her, so I immediately pulled her away.'"
"That woman then called the security guards, and we also called the police, wanting the police to handle the situation," Mr. Zhou said, "Later, five or six security guards came. I heard a leader say 'Brothers, take action,' then I felt someone kick me in the waist. When I turned around, I saw my younger brother already lying on the ground."
"After the police arrived, more than ten fellow countrymen living nearby heard about our trouble and also rushed over," Mr. Zhou said, "My wife is already two months pregnant and couldn't get up after being beaten. They (the security guards) saw me trying to call the police, so they snatched my phone. It hasn't been returned to me yet."
Ms. Yu: I was beaten from the sixth floor to the first floor
At 4:00 PM yesterday, the reporter came to the Second City Hospital. Ms. Yu was lying on the hospital bed, with swollen cheeks and jaw, and a noticeable wound below her left eye. The hospital informed the reporter that Ms. Yu suffered external injuries to her head and contusions to the soft tissues of her chest and abdomen.
"They chased me and beat me, from the sixth floor to the first floor, and I sprained my foot," Ms. Yu said, "I was beaten unconscious at the time."
Ms. Yu told the reporter that they usually collect property fees from 6 PM to 8 PM. Yesterday, she and a colleague passed by unit 2, building 16, and saw the lights on in room 602.
"We contacted the residents of room 602 a few days ago, and they said they had moved out, and no one was living there anymore," Ms. Yu said, "We thought it was strange, so we pressed the doorbell, but no one answered. We suspected that the tenants might have moved out without turning off the lights, so we walked up to the sixth floor to knock on the door, but still no response. Out of responsibility to the owners, I asked my colleague to turn off the power."
After the power was turned off, Ms. Yu stood in the hallway between the fifth and sixth floors.
"I wanted to confirm if anyone was inside, and less than a minute later, the door opened. Several people rushed out, shouting 'Catch the thief.' Before I could explain, I was punched and kicked. I quickly ran downstairs, but I sprained my foot at the time," Ms. Yu said, "They never gave me a chance to speak, they kept beating me. When we reached the ground floor, my colleague pulled them apart, and I was very dizzy, so I rested on the flower bed."
Ten minutes later, the community security guards arrived at the scene and called 110.
When the reporter asked if she knew Mrs. Hong was pregnant, Ms. Yu was very surprised: "I really didn't notice she was pregnant. She chased me from the sixth floor and was so aggressive. That must be the strongest pregnant woman ever."
Security Captain: They said they would kill us
Afterwards, the reporter found the security captain of the neighborhood, Captain Chen, in the monitoring room.
Captain Chen told the reporter that after receiving the call, he gathered a few security guards and rushed over.
"When we arrived, we saw Director Yu sitting on the ground holding her head," Captain Chen said, "After the fight, I thought everything was fine, and everyone was waiting for the police to arrive. Unexpectedly, a man picked up the sewer cover and threw it at Director Yu's head. At that time, we were standing a bit far away, and by the time we rushed over, Director Yu had already fainted."
When asked if there was a situation where more than twenty security guards surrounded and beat three residents, Captain Chen hurriedly denied it: "Including me, there were only seven security guards at the time. You can check, there were only 23 security guards in the entire Beijinyuan that night. The gateposts and the monitoring room must not be left unattended. It's absolutely impossible for more than twenty security guards to be there. On the contrary, they called over twenty or thirty fellow countrymen."
Captain Chen said that among these people, several were very arrogant, not only smashing public facilities but also urinating in front of everyone.
"After the police left, they warned us to be careful and said they would kill us. As the captain, I am really worried about the personal safety of my colleagues," Captain Chen said.
The reporter learned from the police that the incident is still under further investigation.
