Within a week, it seemed like solar air conditioners suddenly appeared around us. Are solar air conditioners really new technology and high-tech products of new energy? Or are they just gimmicks for merchants to compete? How far away are solar air conditioners from us?

Firstly, solar air conditioners are not new technological products. They merely use solar power generation to partially supplement the driving energy of air conditioners. Simply put, it is the combination of solar power generation microcrystalline panels with air conditioners - air conditioner + solar power generation microcrystalline panel. This kind of innovation was applied by solar water heater companies long ago. In 2009, the market saw solar water heaters + solar power generation microcrystalline panels. Even in terms of conceptual innovation, it wasn't pioneered by air conditioner companies like Midea and Gree. I think this is just a conceptual product created by competition among air conditioner companies.

Secondly, from the perspective of application, due to the high price of solar power generation storage equipment and its short lifespan, solar air conditioners do not adopt energy storage. This determines that the energy-saving capability of solar air conditioners during use has significant limitations. Without sunlight or weak sunlight, the generated electricity will be very limited. This is different from the situation in Europe and America where the level of solar power grid connection is high. The electricity generated by solar air conditioners can be collected and incorporated into commercial electricity, allowing for electricity supplementation during air conditioner use and electricity output when not in use, thus achieving a balance between input and output. The energy-saving effect is more evident, and the user's cost is lower. This may also be the reason why Gree's first batch of products were supplied to the American market. Currently, the domestic market does not have such an electrical environment. Users do not see significant economic savings, so the domestic market for solar air conditioners is limited.

Thirdly, from the price aspect, the promotion of solar air conditioners in the market faces great difficulty. Compared to regular inverter air conditioners, solar air conditioners are one or two thousand yuan more expensive. A regular inverter air conditioner of 1P costs about two thousand yuan, equivalent to twice the price of a regular inverter air conditioner. For the market, this is a fatal limitation. Fundamentally speaking, although environmental protection is a global trend, as the quality of citizens has not yet reached a sufficiently high level, price remains the main criterion for users to choose. Because the environment seems relatively distant to users, while the extra several thousand yuan spent at the time of purchase is real money, enough to cover many years of air conditioner usage electricity fees. This issue is also reflected in the regular air conditioner market. Currently, high-efficiency inverter air conditioners have been on the market for a considerable period of time, with 1st tier energy efficiency...

On December 8th and 15th, Gree and Midea respectively announced the launch of their first batch of solar air conditioners, entering the American and domestic markets for sale, aiming to enhance their core technological position in the industry through solar air conditioners. However, the current limitations of solar air conditioners in terms of technology, price, installation, and application fundamentally lack practical market value and are abnormal, conceptual products that emerged from corporate competition.

On December 14th, Midea announced on People's Network its entry into the solar air conditioner market and declared that the world's first Q-HAP solar air conditioner was born in the company. The product has passed relevant national technical and safety tests and began to be launched in the domestic market, filling the global technical gap. Coincidentally, on December 8th, Gree, a domestic professional air conditioner manufacturer, announced the launch of its first batch of inverter solar air conditioners and supplied the initial 50,000 units to the American market.

Judging from the time difference between the announcements of the two companies, which was only one week apart, it feels somewhat suspicious. The competition between Midea and Gree in the air conditioner market is obvious. Midea wishes to dominate in many industries. With Gree taking the lead in announcing the launch of the first batch of solar inverter air conditioners, it is easy to imagine how restless Midea must be. The success and launch of "Midea Solar Air Conditioner" is a certain event. Therefore, other air conditioner companies' solar air conditioners will surely be launched within the near future. Thus, the next-generation environmentally friendly new energy solar air conditioner becomes the next market hotspot. Senior consulting advisor Fang Longsheng of Shanghai Zhuoyue Consulting believes that in the current domestic market, regardless of whether solar air conditioners are new technology products or whether they have truly entered the market, solar air conditioners are just gimmicks and concepts, leading to a situation where there is a concept but no market.
