According to reports, Chen Jun (a pseudonym), who was driving without a license, crashed into a guardrail, causing the death of his wife. After compensating 50,000 yuan to his deceased wife's relatives, Chen Jun was recently sentenced by the Nanhui District Court to one and a half years in prison for traffic manslaughter, with a one and a half year reprieve.
Chen Jun, an unemployed man close to 50 years old, thought that his driving skills were proficient enough during driver training. On the night of May 1st this year, he borrowed a Santana sedan from a friend and visited relatives with his wife. While driving north on Nanliu Highway in Nanhui District, about 400 meters from the Renmin West Road exit, he collided with the isolation guardrail on the east side of the road due to certain reasons. This caused the vehicle to lose control and overturn. His wife Zhu, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died after failing to be saved at the hospital the next day. According to the traffic police department's determination, driver Chen Jun is fully responsible for this accident. Afterwards, after being notified by the public security authorities, Chen Jun voluntarily reported to the case and truthfully confessed to the above criminal facts. Following the incident, Chen Jun reached a civil compensation mediation agreement with his wife's relatives and paid the compensation of 50,000 yuan.
After deliberation, the court believed that the defendant Chen Jun violated traffic safety laws, causing a major accident resulting in one death, and bore full responsibility for the accident, constituting the crime of traffic manslaughter.
