Not long after Gyebaek's death, Sabi was captured by the Tang-Silla allied forces, marking the end of Baekje's 678 years of rule. However, during the later Unified Silla period, due to the spread of Confucian thought, Gyebaek was praised as a model of loyalty. Although there are few historical records about Gyebaek's life, in Korea, legends about him are almost universally known. Today, the Busan Academy and Chunggok Academy in Iksan City, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, both honor Gyebaek. To commemorate him, General Choi Hong-hi named one of the twenty-four Taekwondo routines "Gyebaek". Legend has it that during his final battle with Kim Yusin, he ordered all his soldiers to sew their armor and attach it to their clothes, not allowing them to be removed until the enemy was defeated. Upon learning this, Kim Yusin ordered his soldiers to make mud bullets day and night. On the day of the decisive battle, it happened to be raining heavily. Kim Yusin's soldiers fired the mud bullets, which mixed with the rainwater and stuck to Gyebaek's army's armor, increasing its weight several times over. Unable to bear the weight, Gyebaek's soldiers had to strip off their clothes to wash off the mud. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the Silla army launched a general offensive and achieved a decisive victory!

Gyebaek (played by Lee Re-um)

As the state of Baekje was on the brink of peril, Gyebaek organized 5,000 soldiers to defend Baekje. In order to boost the morale of the soldiers, he proclaimed that he would rather die than be captured by the enemy. Subsequently, he killed his wife and family members so that they would not be captured and humiliated. Initially, Gyebaek won four small-scale battles, but later, the Silla general Kim Yusin attacked the Baekje capital, Sabi (today's Buyeo County). He was forced to intercept them. The two armies clashed at Hwangsan (today's Iksan City, Chungcheongnam-do). Due to being outnumbered, Gyebaek fought bravely and died in battle, and more than 5,000 of his men also perished.

Once again introducing to everyone the historical drama series "Gyebaek" from Korean dramas. Gyebaek is a great figure in Korea who sacrificed his lover, family, and friends for the sake of defending his country, only seeking the safety of the nation. His status in Chinese history should be similar to Yue Fei and other such figures.
