In the era of internet economy, a domain name is undoubtedly a new and important intangible asset for enterprises. It is also a golden signboard for enterprises on the Internet. The importance of domain names to enterprises goes without saying, and the protection of this intangible asset is increasingly valued by enterprises and individuals. However, some users' lack of understanding of domain names has led to some scammers taking advantage of the situation and carrying out fraud using domain names.
Recently, there was a case of fraud involving a globally unique 3G website domain name. According to reports, on July 27, Mr. Shi reported to the media that the 3G domain name he registered for 38,000 yuan, which was called the globally unique 3G website domain name "Hainan Real Estate" by Hainan Zhangfa Technology Co., Ltd., could not be found on search engines such as Baidu and Google, but could only be searched on the company's internal website. It was understood that the Hainan Real Estate domain name registered by Mr. Shi had already been registered by others in 2009. What Mr. Shi registered was a second-level domain name that could only be found within the website, and the claim of global uniqueness did not exist.
After the launch of 3G, mobile internet began to develop, and the 3G website became the standard entry address for enterprises to access the 3G network, which could be found through search engines such as Baidu and Google. After the launch of 3G, some domestic enterprises established WAP websites through second-level domain names, and later .mobi domain names were introduced. Each time a new top-level domain name was launched, it would lead to registration rushes, and on the other hand, it would also bring new fraud methods. Scammers often take advantage of users' lack of understanding of newly launched products to exploit loopholes and carry out fraud. A well-known Chinese e-commerce expert www.nuo.cn reminds users to first gain a deep understanding of new products before making judgments. To determine whether a domain name has been registered, you can search through search engines, but more importantly, you should query on specialized websites. When registering a domain name, detailed investigations and considerations are required, and hasty decisions should not be made under the temptation of being "globally unique."
Coincidentally, the media recently disclosed another case of domain name fraud. According to reports, on July 26, the Fuzhou police cracked a case of network fraud involving domain name renewal after expiration. It was reported that a couple in Fuzhou recruited employees through Fuzhou Jinxing Network Technology Co., Ltd., and trained them in network fraud. According to the company's employees, their job was to search for enterprises whose domain names were about to expire, then contact them and use the knowledge they learned from training to convince them. They would then fax the prepared domain service notice to the other party and ask them to pay for the domain renewal to defraud money. It was understood that the company defrauded more than 110 legitimate enterprises, with a total amount involved exceeding 500,000 yuan.
Such fraud methods are not new. According to industry insiders, domain name fraud mainly comes in two forms: one is the domain name renewal upon expiration mentioned above, and the other is fraud carried out under the guise of protecting Chinese domain names from being preemptively registered. The method involves impersonating staff members of the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) and notifying enterprises that their Chinese domain names must be registered within a few days, otherwise they will be preemptively registered by others, thereby defrauding money.
China Nuowang reminds everyone that when receiving similar contacts, do not panic and fall victim to fraud. The correct handling method is to log into a trusted website for verification.
When receiving a domain renewal notice, please first check if the domain has expired through the Whois domain query system. In English information, ExpirationDate indicates the domain expiration date. After verification, if it is found that the domain is indeed about to expire, you must verify whether the information on the fax sent is from the original domain service provider. The best method is to actively contact the service provider to handle domain renewal. If the original service provider has closed down or due to other factors it is impossible to verify the authenticity of the renewal, you can log into the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) www.cnnic.net.cn to query legal service providers for help.
For enterprises receiving contacts regarding the preemption of Chinese domain names and priority protection registration, it is necessary to clarify one point: domain name registration management has always followed the principle of "whoever registers first owns it," and there is no such thing as priority protection. Therefore, when receiving related contacts, please log into the CNNIC website to verify the authenticity of the claims. If it is determined that you have encountered a scammer, contact the police to prevent other enterprises from being deceived.
The importance of domain names to enterprises is self-evident. To avoid the occurrence of domain name fraud cases, the most fundamental approach is to enhance the self-protection awareness of enterprises. If unfortunately believing in the scam of domain name renewal resulting in losses of several thousand or even tens of thousands of yuan is a minor issue, the serious problem is missing the renewal deadline leading to the cancellation of the filing and the closure of the website. There is even a possibility of losing the golden signboard of the enterprise during this period due to being preemptively registered by others.
Here, www.nuo.cn reminds again that enterprises should enhance their self-protection awareness and be cautious of domain name fraud. At the same time, enterprises that have not yet registered their own domain names should quickly register domain names related to their enterprise brands and products.
