Yingtan News - Reported by Zheng Guohua and Wang Yanjie: Mao from Guixi, who is addicted to gambling, lost all his money and was unable to explain to his wife. He then "came up with a clever idea" and reported to the police that he had been robbed. After investigating the scene and questioning him, the officers discovered there was more to this "major robbery" than met the eye.
Man Reports Being Robbed in the Early Morning
At around midnight on October 14th, the Hutan Police Station of Guixi received instructions from the city bureau command center: Mao, a resident of Maotang Village in Tofu Town, claimed that while riding his motorcycle through Lijia Village in Hetan Town at dawn, he was robbed and beaten unconscious by five or six unidentified men wielding weapons and bricks. They took 2600 yuan in cash.
Scene Investigation Reveals Many Suspicious Points
The crime scene was located on a hilltop in Lijia Village under the Tofu Village Committee. It rained all night during the incident, and the road was muddy, yet no disordered footprints were found at the scene, nor any marks indicating where the motorcycle had fallen over. The officers felt there might be other hidden details about this case.
The officers rushed to the town health center to question the victim, Mao. Mao, 31 years old, has been engaged in fish trading for a long time. Upon entering the ward, the officers noticed wounds on Mao's right cheek and ear caused by a blunt instrument, raising doubts in their minds: "Was the attacker left-handed?"
According to Mao, one among five or six young men was shirtless, holding a brick in his right hand, and struck Mao face-on. This was strange because if the attacker used his right hand, the blow should have landed on the right side of Mao's face, making the injury position illogical. Moreover, Mao said the person who hit him was shirtless with a tattoo of a "snake" on his left arm, which was even stranger considering how cold it was that night. Why wouldn't the attacker wear a shirt? And given the dark, rainy conditions, it would have been impossible for Mao to clearly see the tattooed "snake".
The officers then carefully inspected Mao's motorcycle. The entire bike was clean as new, without mud or any signs of having fallen over. "Could this be a staged self-inflicted robbery? Why would Mao file a false report?" The investigating officers fell into deep thought.
Gambling Losses Lead to Filing a False Report
After analyzing the case, the officers unanimously believed that this robbery was entirely fabricated. "Summon the complainant again." The officers decided to interact with Mao once more.
The investigating officers required Mao to reasonably explain the detailed situation of the scene investigation and numerous suspicious points. Feeling guilty, Mao collapsed onto the ground, sobbing and hugging his head: "I gambled away my money and couldn't explain to my wife, so I staged this self-inflicted fake robbery. I was wrong."
It turned out that before the incident, Mao had lost 2600 yuan gambling, which was the income from selling fish that day and was supposed to be handed over to his wife daily. What to do? Mao then fabricated a robbery story, but ended up exposing himself and thus received administrative punishment.
