Xinhua News Agency, Hangzhou, July 8th (reported by Zhang Le) - An incident of mass poisoning among children occurred in Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou on the 8th. After emergency rescue efforts, all 42 children who were sent to the hospital are now stable and not in danger of losing their lives. The cause of the poisoning still requires further investigation.
At around 1:30 PM on the 8th, a child care center in Yaqian Town, Xiaoshan District, saw several children experiencing symptoms of collective vomiting and abdominal pain associated with poisoning. Subsequently, the poisoned children were quickly taken to nearby medical institutions such as the Second People's Hospital of Xiaoshan District for emergency treatment.
According to Mr. Shao Jiwei, Vice President in charge of business at the Second People's Hospital of Xiaoshan District, the hospital treated a total of 26 poisoned children whose ages ranged between 3 to 7 years old. When they arrived at the hospital, these children exhibited symptoms such as vomiting and abdominal pain, which were similar to those of food poisoning.
Xiaoshan District stated that while continuing to investigate the relevant causes of the poisoning incident, it will also further rectify and inspect unlicensed infant and toddler daycare centers and institutions.
