Our reporter (Wang Qiushi) - In January last year, a shocking campus tragedy occurred at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. Duan Xiaoyu, a 21-year-old female student from the university, confessed to killing her female classmate Zhao in a hotel and turned herself in to the police (reported by our newspaper on January 3, 2010). Yesterday, the reporter learned that Duan Xiaoyu has been prosecuted by the prosecution for suspected intentional homicide. Currently, the First Intermediate People's Court has accepted this case.
Duan Xiaoyu was born in 1990 and was originally a student in the Industrial Design 0801 class of the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. The victim, Zhao, was her classmate and was only 19 years old when she died. The prosecution found that in the early hours of January 2, 2010, Duan Xiaoyu used a knife to cut Zhao's neck multiple times in room 428 on the fourth floor of the 7 Days Chain Hotel at No. 41 Xueqing Road in Haidian District, causing the rupture of Zhao's left common carotid artery and internal jugular vein, leading to death due to acute hemorrhagic shock.
After the incident, Duan Xiaoyu turned herself in to the public security authorities and was criminally detained by the Haidian Public Security Bureau of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau on the same day. She was formally arrested on February 9 of the same year. The prosecution believes that Duan Xiaoyu disregarded national law, intentionally and illegally deprived others of their lives, resulting in death, with an extremely heinous nature of the crime, particularly serious circumstances and consequences, and great social harm, violating criminal law. The crime facts are clear, the evidence is solid and sufficient, and she should be held criminally responsible for intentional homicide. However, the indictment did not describe Duan Xiaoyu's motive or cause for the murder. The day after the murder, the University of Science and Technology Beijing issued a public announcement regarding this matter, which also did not mention the cause of the incident. According to media reports, students revealed that Duan Xiaoyu and Zhao had always been very close, possibly having a homosexual relationship, and the murder may have been triggered by this.
The First Intermediate People's Court handling this case stated that since it involves personal privacy, it will not be publicly tried.
