It is reported that, on the evening of June 28th, the popular social networking site Sina Weibo suffered a large-scale virus attack. More than 30,000 Weibo users fell victim to the "worm," and posted a large number of links to inappropriate content. Some users received thousands of virus private messages, and would be infected as soon as they clicked on them, automatically sending "virus" messages to their friends. The virus has now been removed and the network has returned to calm.
Relevant reports pointed out that the virus was initially spread by a user called "hellosamy." This user forcibly made infected accounts follow him, and anyone who was infected would automatically add him as a friend. In a short time, he gained 30,000 followers. This Weibo user has now been deleted, but it is unclear what his intentions were. It is known that infected Weibo users would receive some strange and highly attractive information such as "the individual income tax threshold may be raised to 4000," "some unnoticed details of the Guo Meimei incident," "3D meat ball high-definition Mandarin version seeds," and "idiot robs bank with hammer." Curious netizens could not resist the temptation, and as soon as they opened the link, they would be infected. The virus effect would then explode, automatically sending the message to all friends, causing a large amount of inappropriate information to spread everywhere.
After the virus outbreak, panic spread across the popular Sina Weibo platform. Hackers' arrival made netizens "uneasy," and they could only "stay put and watch," "burn incense to pandas," and pray that the "worm" would be eliminated as soon as possible. The virus ran rampant across personal accounts, and even media, universities, government, and other official microblogging accounts. It is understood that this is the first large-scale Weibo virus in China, and Sina Weibo's "standing out" made itself a target for attacks. By 9:15 PM on the 28th, the virus transmission had been stopped. After the black wind blew over, the remaining debris was thoroughly cleaned up. The official Sina Weibo account "Weibo Secretary" posted a Weibo apology to all affected users, stating that user information and passwords would not be affected.
According to detection and analysis by the Rising "Cloud Security" system, this was a worm attack. Currently, more than 30,000 infected users have been counted. The cause of this Sina black wind was mainly due to several links having input parameters that were not strictly filtered, leaving vulnerabilities. Fortunately, this was just an attack, spamming inappropriate "sources," without stealing user data information, so the general public does not need to worry. At the same time, Sina Weibo also reminded netizens who have not been infected not to click on related suspicious links.
There has been much discussion online about this virus incident. Some netizens claimed that the author of the virus came from Wuhan University of Science and Technology. Virus incidents are nothing new and frequently occur on the Internet, making one an easy target. Netizens have become numb to these incidents, and discussions about protection against hackers have happened more than once. The continuous upgrades of Rising and 360 antivirus software, along with network developers and operators constantly strengthening technical updates, have not been able to effectively curb these rampant hacker viruses. This Weibo virus is the first example since the rise of Weibo, showing that hackers are truly "all-powerful."
The national e-commerce expert China Nuoweb www.nuo.cn stated that virus hackers are present in all fields, threatening different groups of people. For businesses, whether it is domain names, websites, servers, or backend programs, all aspects related to the network must be comprehensively protected, updated, and upgraded in a timely manner to ensure safety. To open a safe cloud path for businesses, professional IDC service providers should be chosen when establishing an Internet access platform, which will provide more substantial equipment, technology, and services, offering greater security.
