The Golden News (by reporter Yun Tian Jing and Yinxiao Wu) - Previously, we reported a story where a company manager defrauded his employees' information to apply for multiple credit cards to cover the company's cash flow issues. However, a recent case of credit card fraud uncovered by the Zhenhai District Economic Investigation Team in Ningbo is even more severe. In this case, a son stole his father's ID to apply for credit cards, eventually racking up a large bill. The police warn that deceptive credit card applications are now being "manufactured within our close circles." Everyone should properly store their original ID and copies. Even if someone close to you wants your information, you should treat it with caution.

To repay debts, the son stole his father’s ID to apply for a card

Huaoli Mao (alias) and his father Xiangyun Mao (alias) came to Ningbo around the year 2000, working as carpenters there. By the end of 2005, the young Huaoli Mao was no longer content with being just an ordinary laborer. He took out several years of savings, borrowed money from various sources, and opened a decoration company in Ningbo. However, this newly established company had neither fame nor experience, resulting in continuous monthly losses since its inception.

In July 2007, Huaoli Mao's company had already accumulated a significant amount of debt, but business did not improve. To pay off these debts, he came up with the idea of using credit cards to temporarily solve his cash flow problems. He applied for eight credit cards at eight different banks, using them to cover the company's outstanding debts. Within three months, his total overdraft reached over 100,000 yuan on zxyb4_zzfbaidu space. At this point, all the credit cards were at their maximum overdraft limit, and due to frequent overdue records, he could not apply for any more credit cards from other banks. This led him to target his father, Xiangyun Mao. He found an excuse to borrow his father's ID and then, as a proxy, "helped" his father apply for five credit cards at different banks. Subsequently, he used tens of thousands of yuan from the credit cards under his father's name to repay the debts on the credit cards under his own name.

By 2008, when this "robbing Peter to pay Paul" scheme could no longer sustain itself, Huaoli Mao fled. It wasn't until the bank staff approached Xiangyun Mao that he learned about the situation. In August 2010, Huaoli Mao was criminally detained by the Zhenhai District Economic Investigation Team.

Proper storage of IDs and copies is essential

"If the bank rigorously reviewed during the credit card application process and ensured the 'identity match' between the applicant and the ID, such cases could have been completely avoided," said the investigating officer from the Zhenhai District Economic Investigation Team. He noted that apart from the low vigilance of the victims involved, the lack of strictness by the banks during the credit card application process was also a contributing factor. If banks were more standardized and stringent during the application process, such credit card fraud cases would significantly decrease.

Of course, citizens must also enhance their own vigilance. Please properly store your original ID and copies. Even for close friends and family, one should not let down their guard entirely. If you need to give someone a copy of your ID for some purpose, it's best to clearly mark it with words like "This copy is only for use in applying for...".
