Proposal for the Compilation of "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and the exploration of extraterrestrial civilizations are widely known as unsolved scientific mysteries that spark interest in science among the general public, especially among young people. They help cultivate curiosity about the unknown world. In particular, whether extraterrestrial civilizations exist is a common global scientific challenge and a frontier issue in current technology. It is also an academically controversial topic with no widespread consensus. The characteristics of UFO phenomena—such as their form, trajectory, color, and unpredictable appearances—are clearly difficult to understand and hard to explain with existing scientific theories, posing a serious challenge to modern science and technology. Exploring and researching the origins, causes, flight principles, structures, and other strange properties of UFOs to uncover their true nature represents advancing into deeper realms of science, which holds immense significance. UFO research is an interdisciplinary study of depth-edge sciences that has significant importance for human development. Emphasizing and strengthening UFO research will surely accelerate China's technological progress, push forward our understanding of the origin and development of the universe, expand our research perspectives and directions, and have important implications for defining humanity's place in the universe.

Since November 13, 1978, when the People’s Daily published Heng Yan's article "UFO - An Unresolved 'World Mystery,'" China began its UFO research activities. As early as September 1979, the unified civilian academic research group, the Chinese UFO Research Association, was established in Wuhan, marking nearly 30 years of activity. During these 30 years, nearly 50 local organizations were established in places like Beijing, Shanxi, Hunan, Dalian, Chengdu, Henan, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Yiwu, and Shanghai, with nearly 4,000 official members and over 50,000 UFO enthusiasts. National UFO conferences were held in Shanghai, Changchun, and Beijing. National UFO academic seminars were held in Dalian, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Additionally, the first cross-strait UFO academic seminar and the '94 Asia-Pacific UFO Data Exhibition and Academic Exchange Conference were held in Beijing. In September 2005, the World Chinese UFO Federation conference was held in Dalian, and in July 2007, the "UFO Science Forum" was held in Shanghai. Various forms and scales of UFO academic exchange seminars and popular science promotion activities were organized by local UFO research associations. A large number of sighting reports and some video materials were collected, and detailed tracking analysis and investigations were conducted on several major UFO cases. Upholding the guiding thoughts of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, modern natural sciences-based research methods, and the academic principle of "letting a hundred flowers bloom and a hundred schools of thought contend," as science and technology developed, research expanded from simple case studies to multi-disciplinary and multi-field explorations. For example, research on atmospheric phenomena such as ball lightning and ground light fireballs, derivation of aerospace and interstellar navigation theories, conceptual design of new spacecraft, research on space new materials and new energy sources, exploration of cosmic life and intelligent beings, study and application of jet propulsion principles and electromagnetic vibration guidance principles, experiments on low-temperature and room-temperature superconducting materials, and research on human sciences. According to incomplete statistics, more than 50 kinds of UFO newspapers and magazines have been published nationwide, publishing many academic papers, including some high-level ones, thus creating a unique path of UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploration with Chinese characteristics.

For 30 years, many UFO research organizations and enthusiasts have utilized their spare time, self-funded, and overcome unimaginable difficulties to conduct earnest UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory research. Quite a number of members have entered retirement or advanced age but still remain dedicated to UFO research, accumulating substantial research materials and contributing significantly to the journey of UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploration over the past 30 years, often feeling deeply moved.

Summarizing the achievements and lessons learned from the past 30 years has great significance for future UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory research work, and it is an indispensable responsibility for us, the UFO enthusiasts and explorers.

The Shanghai UFO Exploration Research Center is very willing and actively proposes that we collaborate with you all to take on this great and arduous task, laying the groundwork for subsequent UFO enthusiasts and researchers, and making due contributions to solving the UFO mystery. We hope you will join us harmoniously to complete this innovative task.

1. Purpose of Compiling "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

To summarize the activities, achievements, experiences, and lessons of 30 years of UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory research work; lay the groundwork for subsequent UFO researchers and enthusiasts, and make due contributions to solving the UFO mystery.

2. Principles and Requirements for Compiling "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

Basic compilation principles: seeking truth, being factual, seeking innovation, striving for excellence.

It aims to become a reference tool for UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory researchers. Materials should be universally applicable so that necessary references and beneficial instructions and inspirations can be obtained in UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory research. Concepts should be clear, data reliable, technologies relatively mature, and practical results emphasized. On the basis of summarization, there should be innovation to meet the new requirements of exploratory research. Brevity and precision are preferred, with convenient lookup formats providing maximum information, concise textual descriptions, and clear diagrams. Following the principle of "letting a hundred flowers bloom and a hundred schools of thought contend," various viewpoints should be scientifically and succinctly narrated while pointing out corresponding doubts and puzzles. This book is tentatively planned as an internal publication for academic exchanges. The main readers are UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory researchers and enthusiasts, and it can also serve as a reference for personnel and students in other disciplines.

All submitted materials and data should indicate the names of individuals or organizations providing them, and we will try to clearly note them in the book.

3. Tentative Plan for the Stages of Compiling "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

February 1, 2008: Issue the proposal for compiling "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"; before August 1, 2008: Announce the preliminary list of the editorial committee and reviewers; before October 1, 2008: Collect full electronic document materials; before November 15, 2008: Summarize the initial content of each chapter and section; October 5, 2009: Request reviewers to examine the third draft of "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"; before January 15, 2010: Convene the editorial committee, hold an editorial meeting, and start publication work.

Due to economic constraints, we plan to minimize editorial committee meetings and use emails for discussions.

4. Requirements for Members of the Editorial Committee and Reviewer Group for "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

Organizing the compilation of "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research" is a challenging, innovative systematic project with a large workload, broad scope, tight schedule, lack of experience, and no current financial support. Therefore, extensive cooperation and unified planning are essential. Active support and hard work are needed, and opinions must be concentrated to accomplish this meaningful task through collective efforts. The editorial and review committees will be formed based on these requirements.

5. Solicitation Targets for "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

Submissions from UFO enthusiasts, explorers, and UFO research organizations are all welcome.

6. Content Solicited for "30 Years of Chinese UFO Research"

No specific content or word count is set. Submissions may include images and photographs.

Preliminary content: First volume: mainly introduces the chronology of major events of various UFO research organizations, organizational profiles, journal and website profiles; records of academic research, academic exchanges, and popular science promotional activities of various UFO research organizations; titles of important papers on UFO research over 30 years; and self-recommendation materials of some UFO researchers; Second volume: introduces collected major UFO cases and investigation research, data analysis materials; Third volume: introduces views and suggestions on UFO and extraterrestrial civilization exploratory research over 30 years; experiences of UFO research over 30 years and relevant commemorative papers and articles for the 30th anniversary.
