The concept of a modular phone is, of course, a fairly common theme among various conceptual designs. What sets the WILLCOM SIM STYLE (a collaboration between WILLCOM and netindex) apart is its integration of virtually all the functional modules of a phone (such as the PHS module, antenna, etc.) into a card the size of a SIM card, specifically a PCMCIA card measuring 25.6 x 42.0 x 4mm. This card has 600KB of storage capacity, enough to store 700 phone numbers. The card can be used across multiple application devices, one of which is the WILLCOM SIM STYLE phone, designed by Shunji Yamanaka (Leading Edge Design). The phone features a lighter-like mechanism for inserting the PCMCIA card and also comes with a USB adapter.
