Mysterious light circles appear in the sky over multiple places in Xinjiang, possibly caused by space debris (picture)

Song Huagang said that he received a call from a geography enthusiast on the morning of the 12th, claiming that an unknown object had landed in the sulfur ditch at that time.

"The different shapes of the aperture are caused by the different landing rotation paths of the space debris, so some observers will see wave-like apertures or rotating apertures," Song Huagang explained.

Mr. Du, who lives in Mulei County, happily said: "At around 20:00 on the evening of the 11th, while walking home with a friend, I suddenly saw a bright spot in the western sky. It was rotating clockwise and moving southward, with white mist-like things continuously expanding around it. A blue halo also appeared in the center of the white mist. When the diameter of the white mist expanded to twenty or thirty meters, the blue halo gradually faded and finally disappeared."

According to Shi Yun's introduction, when they first saw the pale blue halo, they were attracted by its beautiful color. However, the following spectacle made them mistakenly think that a UFO had visited Xinjiang, causing great amazement.

The observer took pictures of the blue unidentified flying object.

The unidentified flying object with a comet tail.

It started as a star-like bright spot, slowly diffused into red, and finally turned green like a flying saucer. In the end, it became a large circle of blue smoke.

The person in charge of Tianshan Grand Canyon Scenic Area, Shi Yun, said: "At around 19:56 on the evening of the 11th, when our group of seven or eight friends drove our off-road convoy between two peaks, we suddenly spotted a pale blue light ball in the sky. We saw that pale blue light ball move horizontally and quickly, then collide with an unknown object, explode, and produce two white circular light waves. The light waves rapidly grew from small to large forming halos. The two halos overlapped during their expansion. The halos lasted for about two minutes before disappearing, and at the same time, the blue luminous body with a comet tail also gradually grew larger and fainter. After nearly two minutes, the halos gradually disappeared."

Mr. Ma, who works at the Heishan Coal Mine in Toksun, said: "At around 20:00 on the evening of the 11th, while walking out with four or five colleagues, I suddenly noticed the sky getting brighter. There was a green glow in the southwest moving eastward. Gradually, the green glow turned into a straight line emitting blue light. The light waves rotated for several minutes before falling onto the nearby mountain, just like a spaceship."

"They basically all witnessed this unique phenomenon between 19:55 and 20:15. Based on their descriptions, I initially judged that it might be a space fragment falling to Earth, causing friction with the atmosphere during descent," Song Huagang said.

Yaxin News Network (our reporter Yang Fan) reported: "There was a green glow in the southwest sky moving eastward, later emitting blue light, almost like a UFO from a sci-fi movie!" Around 20:00 on January 11, many citizens in areas surrounding Urumqi, including Ulabo, Mulei County, and the Heishan Coal Mine in Toksun, saw mysterious halos of various forms in the sky, marveling at the sight.

Ms. Guo Qian, a hairdresser at a barber shop outside the neighborhood, also witnessed this anomaly. She said: "At around 20:15 that evening, I had just left the barber shop when I suddenly saw a green halo in the sky resembling a flying saucer. The inner halo was round, and the outer one was oval-shaped, very mysterious."

According to Song Huagang's introduction, the appearance of space fragments falling from the sky is relatively common. From the perspective of the law of conservation of energy, only space fragments closer to the atmosphere will fall. Under intense friction, the kinetic energy of the space fragments decreases, and they are attracted by Earth's gravity into the atmosphere, eventually landing on Earth.

Expert: Speculation of Space Fragments

"It's unfortunate that neither my phone nor my friend's has camera functionality," Mr. Du said.

Song Huagang explained: "There are tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of space fragments in the universe, all orbiting along specific trajectories. When fragments break away from their orbits and enter the atmosphere, they generally appear red due to intense friction, falling vertically. As they get closer to the Earth's surface, their speed slows down, and they turn blue. During this process, different colors may appear. As for why there is a smoky situation, this cannot yet be predicted."

On the 11th, the reporter interviewed Assistant Researcher Song Huagang from the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Urumqi Astronomical Station regarding this matter. He had already received inquiry calls from astronomy enthusiasts in Urumqi Chaowobao, Qitai County, and Korla City.

"At first, I thought the bright spot was the light from a plane, but when it suddenly spread out like an explosion and moved eastward until disappearing, I realized it might be an unidentified flying object," said Wan Xuezhi, a resident of the Xinjiang Fertilizer Factory residential area located in Ulabo.
