In order to apprehend the suspects, the police traveled to Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other provinces and cities. On March 14, they arrested Yin in an internet cafe in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. Based on Yin's confession, the next day the police captured Qiao in Inner Mongolia.
After trial, the suspects Yin Xiaodong (male, Han nationality, 16 years old, registered address, Ma Town, Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province, previously dealt with by the police for robbery but released on bail due to insufficient age) and Qiao Weiwei (male, Han nationality, 19 years old, Majiata, Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province) confessed that the victim Guo was idle, often stealing and robbing students' money, and handing over the money to Yin as protection fees. Later, they found that Guo's payments were not as timely as before and he often lied to them. Therefore, they decided to find an opportunity to teach Guo a lesson.
Upon investigation, it was found that the deceased Guo (male, 15 years old, Ma Town, Shenmu County, unemployed). After retrieving the surveillance footage from the hotel and questioning the people present, the police learned that Qiao and Guo were major suspects. The officers immediately went to Yin's home to gather information. They told the police that they knew about their son's involvement in the fight that resulted in death, but after the incident, they had not seen Yin.
On the evening of January 16, 2011, at around 11 PM, the Shenmu County Public Security Bureau received a report stating that a guest in Room 508 of the "Blue Sky" Hotel in Shenmu County had been stabbed by someone else and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. After receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene to conduct investigations. At around 4 AM on January 17, the hospital reported that the victim had died despite efforts to save him.

The suspects fled and sought refuge with the help of their parents to evade police capture. Recently, the Shenmu police successively captured the criminal suspects Yin Xiaodong and Qiao Weiwei in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, and Dalate Banner, Inner Mongolia. Thus, the intentional injury case resulting in death on "January 16" has been solved.
Currently, Yin's parents are criminally detained on suspicion of harboring criminals.
At around 11 PM on January 16, 2011, the two suspects attacked the victim Guo for not following their orders. They went to Room 508 of a hotel in Shenmu Town where the victim was staying, began beating him, and took out the dagger they had carried with them, stabbing the victim before walking out of the hotel calmly. When they learned that the victim Guo had died, Qiao and Yin informed their parents. Instead of persuading their children to surrender, Qiao's parents brought him to relatives in Inner Mongolia to hide, while Yin's parents rented a house for him in Taiyuan to evade police pursuit.
