It has been a long time since IE was used. Just now, I occasionally typed "qq" in the IE address bar and pressed "ctrl"+"enter". I originally thought it would go to www.qq.com, but instead, "www.qq.com.cn" opened. Strangely, this domain name could be accessed, rather than showing an error message redirecting to the 114 website of China Telecom as before. After pinging, it was found that both domain names were resolved to the IP address 58.61.166.142, and after testing, only the main domain name with "www" was resolved, while the domain name without "www" was resolved to another IP address in Shenzhen: 58.60.13.71. Does this mean that Tencent secretly activated the use of this domain name? For many friends who have been unable to access this domain name, it is still necessary to understand the process by which Tencent took over www.qq.com.cn.
QQ.COM.CN mysteriously changed hands
"Conspiracy!" Shen Liang, General Manager of Hangzhou Yuke Information Technology Co., Ltd., the operator of QQ.COM.CN, burst out with the frustration he had kept bottled up for a long time. He introduced that on January 7, 2004, the registrant of the domain name QQ.COM.CN, which the company had been using for nearly five years, suddenly changed. Sinonet, the domain name registration agent, transferred QQ.COM.CN to Shenzhen Tencent Company without the consent or authorization of the original registrant of the domain name.
On January 15, 2004, Ma Huateng, Chief Executive Officer of Tencent Company, who was on a business trip in Beijing, also confirmed that QQ.COM.CN had indeed returned to Tencent Company. His reaction was relatively calm, "The company of the domain name owner no longer exists, and QQ.COM.CN cannot be transferred," in his view, the domain name should belong to Tencent Company. "Tencent Company is operating a portal website through the QQ.COM domain name recently repurchased from overseas, but the other company under QQ.COM.CN also launched QQ dating and QQ email, confusing users and causing some market chaos."
Won the lawsuit but lost the domain name
According to reports, the QQ.COM.CN domain name was registered by Yang Feixue on June 23, 1999. On January 16, 2003, Tencent Company submitted a complaint against the registrant of the QQ.COM.CN domain name, Yang Feixue, to the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center. The reasons for the complainant Tencent's complaint were: 1. The disputed domain name is identical to or confusingly similar to the name or mark in which the complainant has civil rights; 2. The registrant of the disputed domain name does not have legitimate interests in respect of the domain name; 3. The registrant of the disputed domain name registered and used the domain name in bad faith.
On January 20, 2003, the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center received a confirmation letter about the domain name QQ.COM.CN sent by CNNIC via email, confirming that the disputed domain name was provided with registration services by CNNIC; the respondent was the registrant/holder of the disputed domain name; and the disputed domain name was in normal status.
After fierce exchanges between both parties, the expert panel of the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center did not support the complainant Tencent's complaint request, dismissed its complaint, and unanimously ruled to maintain the legal status of the respondent Yang Feixue as the registrant of the "QQ.COM.CN" domain name.
The original database of the CN domain management institution CNNIC shows that since June 1999, Yang Feixue, the current chairman of Zhike Software China Co., Ltd., has always been the registrant of the QQ.COM.CN domain name. At the time of registration, Yang Feixue's registered company was "Beijing Dingyang Technology Co., Ltd.", which has been deregistered due to business transformation. On June 16, 2003, the original QQ.COM.CN business operations were transferred to Hangzhou Yuke Information Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhike Software.
In early 2004, the domain registrar Sinonet called Zhike Company, stating that "according to Tencent's report, the company Beijing Dingyang Technology Co., Ltd. filled out during the registration of the QQ.COM.CN domain name no longer exists, so Yang Feixue, the owner of QQ.COM.CN, will no longer be able to continue using the domain name." Upon receiving this information, Zhike Company contacted Sinonet through official and private channels, but all were refused with this excuse and denied the opportunity to present their defense. On January 7, 2004, Sinonet changed the registration information of QQ.COM.CN to "Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.", with the registrant changed to Jing Tao, Vice President of the Beijing branch, and the registration period extended until 2009.
