ECNS, January 19 -- Today, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the Statistical Report on the 27th Internet Development in China (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). The report showed that, by the end of December 2010, the scale of Internet users in China reached 457 million, an increase of 73.3 million over the end of 2009. In addition, the scale of mobile Internet users in China reached 303 million, which was still the main driving force for the overall Internet user scale in China, but the growth rate of mobile Internet users slowed down compared with 2009; the most noteworthy point was that online shopping users increased by 48.6%, which was the fastest-growing application and heralded that more economic activities were entering the Internet era. The scale of Internet users broke through the 450 million mark and Internet access equipment presented diversified development. The report showed that, by the end of December 2010, the scale of Internet users in China broke through the 450 million mark and reached 457 million, increasing by 73.3 million over the end of 2009; the popularization rate of the Internet climbed to 34.3%, increasing by 5.4 percentage points over 2009. The scale of mobile Internet users in China reached 303 million, increasing by 69.3 million people over the end of 2009. The proportion of mobile Internet users among the overall Internet users further increased, rising from 60.8% at the end of 2009 to 66.2%. Mobile Internet users had a larger increase than traditional Internet users and still constituted the main driving force for the overall Internet user scale. The diversification of Internet access equipment for Chinese Internet users developed, and the use rate of notebook computers increased the most. The report showed that, in 2010, the proportions of desktop computers, mobile phones and notebook computers used by Internet users were 78.4%, 66.2% and 45.7%, respectively. Compared with 2009, the use rate of notebook computers increased the fastest, increasing by 15 percentage points, while the use rates of mobile phones and desktop computers increased by 5.4% and 5%, respectively. The popularization rate of fixed broadband approached full coverage, but the network speed was far below the global level. The report showed that, although the popularization rate of broadband among wired (fixed network) users in China was as high as 98.3%, the national average Internet connection speed was only 100.9 KB/s, which was far lower than the global average connection speed (230.4 KB/s). At present, among all provinces in China, Henan, Hunan and Hebei ranked the top three in terms of average connection speed, with respective speeds of 131.2 KB/s, 128.2 KB/s and 124.5 KB/s. Business applications continued to "lead" the network and network entertainment gradually entered a stable period. Currently, entertainment applications presented a declining trend in the network applications of Chinese Internet users, and e-commerce Internet applications became the fastest-growing mainstay of the development of the Internet economy in China. The report showed that online shopping users increased by 48.6% year-on-year, which was the fastest-growing application, and online payment and online banking also had annual growth rates of 45.8% and 48.2%, respectively, far exceeding other types of network applications. More economic activities in China were accelerating into the Internet era. With the rapid growth of the scale and model of e-commerce applications, network entertainment entered a relatively stable development period. The report showed that the penetration rates of most entertainment applications declined in 2010. The user penetration rates of network music, online games and online videos fell by 4.2%, 2.4% and 0.4%, respectively, and the user scale increase was relatively small. Small and medium-sized enterprises experimented with "network marketing" and basic network security could not be ignored. Currently, small and medium-sized enterprises were experimenting with "network marketing". The report showed that the proportion of Internet access for small and medium-sized enterprises reached 92.7%, and the proportion of Internet access for larger enterprises was close to 100%. 43% of Chinese enterprises had independent websites or online stores established on e-commerce platforms; 57.2% of enterprises used the Internet to communicate with customers and provide consulting services; the level of e-commerce / network marketing applications for small and medium-sized enterprises was 42.1%, and email accounted for 21.3% of the proportion of the "most common Internet marketing methods". With the continuous increase in the intensity of centralized governance of network security issues by the government, network security issues improved significantly, but the situation was still severe and problems could not be ignored. The report showed that, in 2010, the proportion of Internet users who encountered virus or Trojan attacks was 45.8%; Internet users who experienced account or password theft accounted for 21.8%. The report believed that, with the further improvement of the network security protection mechanism for national domains, the ability to discover and deal with network and information security incidents greatly increased. However, preventing and eliminating network security issues and removing dishonest behaviors on the network required the intervention of authoritative third-party institutions to form a pattern of "combining attack and prevention and focusing on prevention" from aspects such as website identity verification and data transmission encryption, helping Internet users and websites establish various comprehensive prevention mechanisms.
